DanI am always serious! Well, not really, but about this I am. My company decided that the shortened summer schedule they've been promising me for 2 years was no longer an option. I'll still be working up here, but doing things that aren't stress filled and don't suck the life out of me!

Now, that's stress!For me, stress is dealing with an always overbooked service schedule, irate customers because everything takes too long / costs too much, 13 hour days including my travel time. Teaching people how to drive / dock their own boats cause me zero stress...tiki Hut boats cause zero stress, in fact that's actually fun for me. See the difference??

Stock up on supplies and spend the winter on the island.

The first rule for successful retirement: NEVER make a "to do" list. It's OK to do a shopping list for the hardware store so you have supplies on hand, but don't use that stuff the same day you bought it. No matter the degree of dementia, you will always remember which shelf in the tool shed holds those spare parts. Leave the receipt in the bag so that, 10-15 years from now, you will have a date to tell you how unnecessary that project really was.

As I'm spending far more time on other boats these days, there haven't been many views to share, but here are a few. Always nice to see the big boats out and about. The picture of the Mount was taken right after we had an encounter between Eagle and Governor's...she snuck up behind me, and her horn blast let me know that I'm always gonna be the give-way boat in THAT situation! The last one proves once again that the C-Nile is the swiss army knife of boats. Whatever I need... taking my grandson Blake tubing, dry lake transportation, overnight accommodations, or man-cave ( if you know, you know), it handles everything I throw at it!

Been very busy up here for the last couple of months doing things I actually enjoy! Full retirement age for me is 66 1/2, and that will happen this February, so until then I'll keep plugging away, but even after that, imagine having jobs that keep you on the lake 8 hours a day, with no stress , surrounded by new and happy people every day...I don't think I'll want to give that up any time soon!

It is kind of a neat place. The previous owner was a friend so I went to a cookout there. Some unique features for sure and a nice area of sandy beach. The biggest downside in my opinion is the holding tank. But, owning your own island is kind of cool!

All in all, it's been a pretty amazing summer for me. Despite all the rainy weather, I've actually made my dream come true... working on the lake! Some days have been long, but never lacking amazing views. I've met and interacted with so many nice, friendly people along the way that I've almost forgotten how stressful the auto service business actually was. As my season is winding down, the harsh reality is setting in... I have to go back to a " real job" for a little while anyway, and I'm dreading the thought of throwing myself back in the fire. I guess it will make me appreciate next summer even more, and how beautiful this area really is!! Someday...." Sigh"...[emoji16]

I know this reasoning well.... My wife is trying to convince me into having the place closed by the end of Oct.... I generally have the boat out by then, but then take my time closing the camp itself going up a few time in Nov.

Too much rain...We haven't stayed on island since Labor Day. And this weekend isn't looking great either. Its depressing how many weekends we spent at home this season.

We still have 4 boats and 3 pwc in the water as well as an empty woodshed to fill so I need to spend some time out there soon.

Dan, everyone knows it's very hard for me to leave! Family situations took us off the island much earlier than desired... completely moved off since before Halloween. I think I'm in stalling mode...one weekend I cleaned everything out, last weekend I drained the plumbing and winterized, tomorrow I'll set up the circulator and bring all my tools home... it's like leaving a foot in the door, you know! Thanks for the gift...much appreciated!!!

Our vet diagnosed Holly with an electrolyte imbalance...I know my my 12 volt car battery has electrolyte, so I figured the little ones would have some as well and be safe for her to eat. No medical reason for the Coke...she just likes it!

For those of you familiar with the Tiki Hut Boats, you might know that the little ones were actually more like rafts...built up on blue flotation barrels. This season, one of the small boats is getting an upgrade.....pontoons! This will make it more stable, faster and more fuel efficient, increase it's passenger capacity, and a hell of a lot easier to keep in a straight line. Can't wait to see the final product!

Well, three of the cats came out on the boat yesterday, so I guess we're officially here for the season. Our oldest cat , Ethel, passed away a month ago and will be buried out here...one less to worry about trapping in the fall .

We went to Meredith and the finger docks were full...there were 2 or 3 boats waiting for a spot to open up. I noticed a small spot against the wall that his boat would fit in and told him to dock there. I think he was a little apprehensive, but he proceeded and much to his surprise he was able to fit right in with no input from me. Wasn't perfect, but he got the job done! [emoji16]

How to get a free tow back to your Lake Winnipesaukee dock? Stand up in your broke down boat and wave a paddle around, up in the air, as other boats travel past.

Very soon, someone will stop to offer help or a free tow back to your dock. This method works every time and has never failed in the last 114-years.

Been towed once and towed other people three times. I was happy to do it and will be very appreciative when it's my turn again. My one tow was with a brand new boat with a defective belt. You never know when it will happen.

Boating instruction appointments have taken me to many areas of the lake...many in my own " backyard " so to speak, and lots in places I don't get to see too often. I was excited when I got a request to go up to Lee's Mill , a place I've never been to. What a quiet, peaceful area of the lake it is! Pulling away from the dock, we watched a huge eagle catching fish , and I felt like we were on a small pond instead of the largest lake in NH!
The picture is the spillway from Lee's Pond , which on the map appears to be the northern most part of the lake. Have any of you explored this area? It's beautiful!

We went up to Lees Mills a few years ago to see the steamboats. We had the feeling that we weren't on Winni too. The steamboat meet is scheduled for 9/6-15 with parades on 9/8 and 9/14. Had to look it up as we may go again.

We're in Hanson Cove. At first, I thought it might be uncool to be so far from "the main lake," but gosh do I love the extra boating days (no need to avoid weekends, much more sheltered from the wind, etc.) and calmness. It's a much different lake up here, for sure.

Beware of the rocks, though!

Working for car dealership service departments, I've been overloaded with stress for many years. Tiki boats are actually fun for me . Boating instruction is rewarding when I see the smiles of people when they realize that docking a boat doesn't have to be a 3 person " all hands on deck" clown show. Except for the lady who accidentally gunned the throttle with her boat pointing at her neighbor's dock , then froze like a deer in the headlights ( I had to climb over her to bring the boat under control), that's been pretty stress free as well!
