Why the hell did I not buy an enclosed boat sooner! You can't be in any kind of a hurry in this thing, but according to my wife I'm never in a hurry to do ANYTHING, so it all works out![emoji6]

One extra question, What powers this motor wise. Thanks ...... :)

How many of these are on the lake? I saw two yesterday, one docked and one out busting through the chop, was interested in how the ride was? Yesterday was pretty snotty, I was averaging about 18-19mph on our ride from Alton up to Meredith. We were going to try to make it back to Alton for the ski show but waited out the storm at Surfside Burger Bar instead.

If you are considering boats of that style, be sure to check out Parker and Steiger too. There are a few of those in my marina and they seem to be well made though a bit more power hungry than Eastern or C-Dory. If accommodations are a priority, look for a Rosborough RF-246. They are excellent and offer a bit more frills in the cabin. They were made with inboard, outboard and stern drive propulsion.

My MVYC slip limits me to a 24 foot or smaller boat, so that requirement led me to this boat...I'm happy it did! Sitting at home yesterday, my grandson decided that we should be anchored off Bear like some of the other boaters, so we boated across the channel and dropped anchor. He floated in a tube for a while, the took turns jumping off the swim platform and side of the boat. He loved it ...." I never jumped off a boat before!!" His grandmother stayed on our beach and was able to watch him having fun!! He loves this boat as much as I do!

Finally thought I'd chime in on this thread. I have a 19ft C-Dory Angler I found at the same time we bought our lot on Rattlesnake. I am finding the same thing...I'm not really in a hurry to go anywhere. Being out there as long as I have been, I still like to take in the sights...stopping to take pics of things I've seen a thousand times...it doesn't get old to me. This one has a Wallas stove/ heater...will be a game changer for me....I've suffered through some pretty horrific commutes....freezing cold, snowstorms, driving rain, etc. With the sound system I installed, it's like being in a little music studio and even though I don't fly across the lake, I sometimes wish my commute was a little bit longer!

Back in my youth, the dock posts were pilings. Several of us would climb up on the top of the pilings and then dive in. Clarence, the old gentleman that was the cop assigned to the dock area, would give us heck about driving off the pilings. Then my mom would climb up and do a dive, and Clarence would say "Mrs C, you're not helping here!".

Great swimming back in the day and would get out when someone wanted to use the dock.

Glad to see others enjoying the swimming there.

Heater in small, lake boat:

Wonder if lobster boats that work in Maine and Canada ocean waters use cabin heaters like the Finland made, Wallas kerosene heater?

With the cold ocean water doesn't their lobster boat get very cold pretty much all rear 'round, plus they probably are out on the job for hours, or some extended time.

Just like headlights or a horn, cars are required to have a heater/defroster in New Hampshire, but not an air conditioner ..... so's the legislature needs to mandate that every boat in NH must have a kerosene heater, too.

Barney Bear

Hard to install a kerosene heater on a Sailfish or canoe. :coolsm:

This reminds me of a tale: this avaricious fellow acquired a new-to-him kayak, and wanted to try it out on a cold day. He placed a boat heater on the floor, which in short order, melted through the hull and promptly sank the vessel. That goes to show, you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

Heated wet suit vest; do a search for 'heated wet suit vest' which have a re-chargable electric heater and they cost from $100-$200, designed to be worn either alone or under a windbreaker, wet suit or dry suit ..... how's about that ..... a heated wet suit vest.

Maybe they make one that's a combination heater and massage, in a wet suit vest

The Rip Curl H-bomb heated wetsuit vest ...... sounds like powerful heat.

Between the location, the docking and the boats (not to mention your adventures!)- Beautiful!!!And the cats...don't forget the damn cats![emoji16] I've said it before, but we've worked long and hard to have what we have. Dont take this the wrong way, but most people could only dream of living where we do, or see the things we see, so I guess that's why I share the views. It seems strange when boats go by slowly and the people on board gawk, but I get it. I'm not sure they understand the amount of work that's been going on over the years to get to this point , but it's ok. I take pictures to share the beauty, and maybe have a few laughs in the process!

I have not...we live in a log house, so the walls aren't insulated with anything, but the walls are thick and solid wood. I insulated the crap out of the ceiling, but the floors are not insulated. We can basically heat the house during the day just by turning interior lights on, saving the precious propane for the gas fireplace when absolutely needed... too late in the year to get propane deliveries, so what we need I have to lug out myself. Happy about the time change, so now I can actually see how foggy the lake is when i leave in the morning! :-) Evening rides are all gonna be in the dark now, but full moons light the way ( now that most navigation lights are gone ), but I have gps so it's all good. I've been coming out of Mt. View and someone on Bear has been lit up like a Christmas tree on weekends so following those lights ( best navigational aid on the lake, next to the green rope lighting on Mink ) make it easy! I've kept a windshield ice scraper on the boats for years, so that's nothing new...but for me, the game changer this year is the C-Nile... enclosed, heat...I've been trying to get an old friend out to the house for years, but he's petrified of water and boats. He finally caved in and came out yesterday. He had a comfortable ride out at 11am, ( I kept checking for facial sweats :-) ), and when I took him in at 6pm, it was cold and raining, but we stayed warm and dry...he wasn't uncomfortable in the least and actually enjoyed the ride!
We are still aiming to have Thanksgiving out there...I'll let you know how THAT goes! Until then, it's just business as usual!

I think most of the Gilford islanders make the trip back and forth to the mainland so often, there really isn't much navigation. Mostly, look at the land masses and the three red airport towers can be seen for miles. Mostly, keep your eyes out of the cockpit looking for other boats. Fog, of course is a different story. Electronic assistance might be nice, but we just never got around to it. Maybe next year, Navionics.

Some nights are so dark I can't see land masses...but you're right, once I'm around Mink, I can see the towers and Glendale....much easier with the flashing navigation lights, but those go away in October.

Honestly I have lost count! Far more than Steve's underwear changes. We were neighbors ya know! :D

I spoke with the new owners of 1000 Islands a year or so ago about a new boat. The 18' was about $100k, a far cry from the mid $50k's I paid new years ago for the yellow one. They have certainly refined them though. They offered to have me be their rep in the northeast and sell me a boat to show at a discounted rate. Timing wasn't right, but I am getting tempted to re-engage the conversation. I have been looking for a used one and they are non-existent out there. Any ads found online are old ads for boats that are long gone.

Every air boat or hovercraft I've ever seen all have the same problem in common. They are extremely loud because they have non-muffled exhaust pipes. Plus, it is possible to flip it over, upside down, when crossing from ice to open water, or open water to ice, if you are not careful.

For about $40 at www.swap.com, an internet thrift store located somewhere unknown, you can get a good pair of winter walking boots, and get better benefits than what you get with a many thousand dollar air boat or hovercraft. Something like a pair of Timberland, shoes/boots made in Maine, size 11-wide, reg-$119, swapped out at $40 ...... with just a tiny amount of wear on the edge of the soles, you know ..... such a deal!

You know that Moultonborough Fire Dept just sits around all year, all 12-months long, eating fire house, home-made meatballs, and fire house chicken parmigiana a-waiting for someone on a snowmobile or atv or something to break through the ice so's they can zoom out there on their ice boat to probably retrieve a frozen and deceased non-survivor before it sinks into the icy cold depths.

These exotic ice travel boats are best left to the local fire dept, that get's one donated in memory of someone who drowned while driving a snowmobile across the ice. When the fire dept goes out on an ice boat run, they wear a dry suit, pfd, and a helmet.

As Walter Cronkite used to say ....... and, that's the way it is! .... :eek2: ... blah-blah-blah!

looks beautiful!! The C-Nile is going in for trim tabs...

Trim tabs should be standard equipment on any planing-hull boat. I think you will love them. Don't be afraid to put them down (carefully) at speed. I was convinced for years that they were just for leveling the ride and lowering the planing speed and then I discovered how they also smoothed the ride in chop at higher speeds. Suddenly bumpy days that were limited to 18 MPH became fun, 35 MPH days.

The only way the C-Nile's gonna do 35 is with a tail wind and a jet pack! ;-)

There's sort of an assumption about freezing because it was discovered in the spring. Most likely, yes.
Three years ago, mid-July, my nephew said he heard a water spraying noise, Turned out a copper pipe, under a set of steps had split. No reason, just old pipe. Lift a board, cut the pipe, (or island gremlins), solder in a coupling. No big deal. I know what plumbing and electrical supplies my neighbor has, and vice versa. Also where the keys are. On an island, thee's a lot of DIY reliance.

AnthonyTrue story...I had posted a picture of the lake with not another boat in sight on a " i boat on winni" page and jokingly made a comment about feeling lonely. Somebody commented " oh, you're not alone...everytime you go by us , we yell out C-Nile, and the dog barks! Made me laugh! Yesterday afternoon, i had to do some shopping in town, and my wife ( who generally never leaves the island) came along. Pulling out of Glendale on the way back, I boated past Belknap Point. There were 6 or 8 people standing on a dock and they all started waving, so I blew the horn at them. My wife, who is never on the boat, said " what was that all about?" I said with a straight face " oh, it's like people who yell " mount" when the Mt. Washington goes by...they wave, yell out C-Nile, and all their dogs bark!" [emoji16] She thinks the boat is aptly named....

The view from the back of the C-Nile yesterday was nothing to write home about...propane trip. For some reason, we couldn't get the propane company to bring the barge out all of last year, so if you're listening Kevin, the big tank is still empty!
Here's a plug for Osborne's Agway...not only are they very nice, but they stocked plant fertilizers my wife needed that even Lowes didn't stock, and they fill 100 pound propane tanks for 59.99! Cheapest price I've found!!17063

That stayed on the boat. He'll probably get the same looks of disbelief telling his classmates about his boating into school that i get when i mention to my customers that I have to boat in to work![emoji6]

His picture was just on the ch 9 news

People on the lake are quick to report on things they see. Many times news items are on Winnipesaukee.com before the local media has the story.

In years past I have noticed that often WMUR and the Laconia Sun seem to echo stories first seen here. I think they keep a pretty close watch on many sources and have scanners on police and fire frequencies looking for stories they can report on.

I can’t see any kid who gets to spend summers on a Winnipesaukee island with his grandparents turning bad at any age. He sees every day how good honest hard work pays off. [emoji3]

he had a pretty good summer...graduated to an adult sized kayak, getting a handle on the swimming thing, did some solo tubing, and took a crack at the neighbor's diving board with some success! :-)

The view from the C-Nile coming home last night was a dark one. The navigation lights from Glendale out to Mark have already been removed. I don't remember them ever disappearing this early...was thinking the end of this month was the time.
