With 4 dogs, they go everywhere....I just aimed for the yellow circles and hoped that everyone was so preoccupied looking for wayward kayaks that they wouldn't see me!

It must have been a bumpy ride in this morning. The wind was howling up on the hill last night, and it looked rough down near Diamond/Rattlesnake.

We kind of play it by ear...planning on having Thanksgiving out here, maybe move off that weekend or the next??? I don't have any clogged arteries this year so the move and pulling of the boat should be easier than last year! :-) I have taken a lot of stuff home over the course of the past month as well.

well....it was so cold this morning ( 19 degrees ) that the steering cable was frozen in place...I discovered that after backing away from the dock, I couldn't turn the wheel! Loosened up after a bit, but made for an interesting ride in. I'm thinking it's time to call it a year...

3 headed to winter quarters??
yep.... these are the 3 that are hardest to corral as they're not thrilled with crates and carriers. I've had years where on the final day at the lake, one will go into hiding and I have to leave them for a day or to til I can get back out there. That won't be the case this year.
Glad you got them all corralled! We had a place on an island years ago and when we left one of the cats was no where to be found. I went back the next day and he was very glad to see me! I was very worried though.

Same thing last year....cat took off like a rocket ( in the house ) and I searched for an hour...must have found a good spot cause I couldn't find him. I went back the next night and he was sitting on the back of the couch, cold and hungry...much more subdued and easily crated! ;-)

We went back for her, then returned to go to the ER. As long as blood isn't spurting...play on.True story along the same lines...we had a birthday party out here for my wife 3 years ago. It was a great time and went deep into the next morning. We had some overnight guests that had to get to their vehicles, so still in a dazed fog, they got in the pontoon and we headed to Glendale where some were parked. Charlotte the dog came along for ride. When we got there, I dumped the mountain of trash we generated, wished safe travels to my cousin's headed back to NJ, then got back on the boat to take the rest to Mt.View where their vehicles were. As we approached the channel to the marina, I had a revelation...." Where's the dog????". I sped back to Glendale and sitting on the dock was Charlotte, with her best " what the hell did you just do to me " face. She hopped on board and we completed our mission, and I avoided decapitation by the wife , cause that would have been the outcome!

You're very welcome....it's fun for me too! One year I waited a little too long and Glendale was snowed in...the truck I had couldn't pull the boat out ( wheels were spinning ) , but luckily, my buddy Codeman was there in the parking lot, and I attatched a tow strap to the front of my truck and the back of his, and the boat came right out. Having to witness his pics and social media posts about my failure and his truck's superiority , I decided there and then to never have to go through the humiliation ever again, so now I watch the forecasts like a hawk and pull the boat before snow!

In #627 above, is this really candid, or posed? Where is the photographer standing?
Easy when the boat is at rest. I remember refueling in the water ski marathons, WOT, skier, driver and fuerer/observer. We knew ahead of time that we didn't have enough fuel to do the entire 60 mile route at WOT without extra fuel so it was a planned mid-air refuel, twice. For those involved in the races, this was 60 miles x 2. two days commemorating Cap'n Jack Goodhue's 60th birthday and 120 years in operation for Goodhue Boat Yard. Very rough both days, many DNF's.

No, not staged. But I wish it was.
The photographer was on his boat, taking pictures after he brought his lawnmower gas can to me. He lives on Scenic Drive in Gilford facing the Broads. The gauge still showed just under 1/4 full and I was headed to Mountain View to get gas.
Among other things wrong with that boat, I let out about 75 feet of anchor chain when the boat stopped and had to pull it back in by hand because the anchor windlass wasn't working. Line would have been much easier and lighter than all chain!
The boat, a Regal 2700 ES, was the worst boat I have ever operated. It looked great but the handling and mechanical end of things was terrible. It was impossible to keep it level, no matter what you did with the trim tabs and drive. It just rolled from side to side.
It had numerous electronic dashboard failures and it was delivered with a bad U joint in the drive that cause a vibration. Even a factory technician from Regal couldn't find the issue causing the vibration. It was not purchased locally but a Silver Sands mechanic found the problem and it was repaired under warranty.
Thankfully, that boat was sold a few years back.

I also remember an " out of fuel " distress call I received one night...seems this big Monterey was taking an evening cruise and ran out of gas. I brought out a 5 gallon can, but the boat was so empty it wasn't enough to get the engines running. I had to tow them back to their dock next door. Had I known that the snowy Glendale photoshoot would take place, I would have stopped mid-tow and taken plenty of pics of THAT operation! [emoji16]

Yes, very picturesque. But, it makes me recall times when we weren't so environmentally sensitive and we only salted the strip down the middle of the road and the snow was gone in two days. Now, we care about the environment, we salt everything and the road never gets snow covered. I guess nobody owns chains anymore.

I was driving up from MA last night, once I was above Nashua it was changing to freezing rain then snow. Was pretty bad Manchester and above, a few cars off the road.
Chains? Studded tires? Not many of either in this region any more.

I'm leaving for South Carolina on Friday and didn't want to leave the boat at Glendale for 2 weeks, so when I came in this afternoon, I dropped it at Mt.View. Because it's early in the season and with only the vehicle I drove up in, I had to walk from the yacht club to Glendale in today's mess. I don't mind the exercise, but I don't think Holly is too happy looking like a wet seal.

With the general flow of water from the main lake through the Weirs Channel to the dam in Lakeport, I wonder how much debris ends up at the dam. I would think, especially in the spring, it would be a substantial amount.

Well the Tiki Hut boats are back in the water and ready to go! I'm pursuing my shortened work weeks at the dealership and have a meeting scheduled with my boss tomorrow to discuss my plan. I don't know about anyone else, but at this stage in my life, I look at obituaries. When I read that people younger than myself are dying of "natural causes", it scares the crap out of me. The stress of working the service desk is sucking the life out of me, but driving the tiki boats is fun and like a breath of fresh air, so the more I can do that, the better off I'll be. Wish me luck!![emoji16]

Couldn't agree more! People ask me why I stay in my current school (I'm an administrator) rather than move on to bigger things - and more money. My job, and life are incredibly low stress and I enjoy going to work. Life is too short to suffer at work if you don't have to - I may make a few financial sacrifices, but the low stress and summers off (and at the lake) more than makes up for it.
Maybe my retirement career move is to drive Tiki boats - being out on the water with people who are there to have fun sounds awesome!

As I was loading the boat at Glendale early yesterday evening, I got a call from my island neighbor. He was frantic...he and his wife had been walking the trails on Mark doing some cleanup, and at the top of the hill noticed that a medium size bear was following them. He said they tried walking away, but the bear continued to follow. They made it to the southern point, but the bear kept coming...he started yelling at it, even fired up the chainsaw he was carrying to try to scare it away...nothing worked...the bear got closer and closer. With no place left to go and no room to escape, he called me to extract them from the point. We pulled into the channel and they came running out to one of the docks...his chainsaw still running and revving. We picked them up, and as we were heading through the channel spotted it. I don't know if it was just curious or aggressive, but it scared the crap out of them. Another C-Nile rescue mission in the books! [emoji6]

Is that the first bear you have ever seen on the island? No, 2nd for me ( we had a little guy up in one of our trees last year), but many have spotted them, especially over the last couple of years. Chris from F&G came out yesterday and walked the island. He thinks either my neighbors got in between mom and her cubs, or it was just a curious teenager and didn't seem too concerned.

you'd think that someone who's been on the lake as long as I have would know better... This morning I had to commute to work, so I allowed myself plenty of time to take a leisurely ride in. I got to the Glendale docks about 6:45 ( plenty early ) and as I was getting off the boat, I heard a sound that no boater ever wants to hear...ker-plunk. My key ring fell out of my pocket and into the lake. Got my boat hook out and tried for 15 minutes to grab onto them ( in maybe 4 feet of water ) with no luck. Not wanting to be late for work, I stripped down to my boxer shorts, to the amusement of the folks launching their boats, jumped in the lake and grabbed them off the bottom. Moral of the story...if your wife gets you a float for your key ring, put it on! Dumbass....
OH NO! But looks on the bright side, it wasn't in the middle of the lake but only in 4 ft. of water.

Luckily it was when Ford gave you an emergency plastic credit card thingie with a punch out key when you bought your car and she had it in her wallet. Fords all have keypads. You can leave the fob in the car. Yes, somebody could smash the window. I think smashing the window is to steal visible contents. Of course, in some cars, smashing the window will activate the alarm, or deactivate the ignition or some such. It won't be long before your iPhone facial recognition, or fingerprint technology, will move to your car.
