Shannon Brook at the Castle is usually a rather moderately-flowing stream. This frothy photo from yesterday shows a different beast, wild and 'foaming at the mouth'. 7 Cascades is a 40-yd stretch of solid ledge that drops over 20 ft from top to bottom. Normally the only white water seen is at the places where the water drops vertically (or nearly so) in 7 distinct spots - yesterday about 90% of the water making the 40-yd passage was white water, and parts of the ledge which are almost never covered with water were covered this day. It looked like something a white water canoist or kayaker with a death-wish might seek out.
