A sure sign of Spring, this Osprey pair was sighted in a small beaver swamp yesterday. They have begun building their nest in the remains of an old pine tree drowned by the damming up of the stream by an earlier generation of beavers. Being in the middle of the swamp helps to protect the nest from being raided by ground-based predators. An Osprey is only a little smaller than an eagle, so they are able to do a good job of protecting the nest from most predators.
