This view was enjoyed by Pres. Grover Cleveland, who built a summer home, called Intermont (it was sited between the Sandwich and Ossipee Ranges), on a hill in Tamworth. His son, Francis, helped found the local theater group The Barnstormers (the oldest professional summer theater group in the country), backing and directing it until his death in 1995. A grandson of Grover's is a present-day resident of nearby Wonalancet. Black Snout is the tallest peak near the center. On the left are Larcom and Little Larcom Mts, named for the poetess Lucy Larcom, a disciple of the famous John Greenleaf Whittier, who has his own Ossipee mountain 3 miles to the east. 100+ years ago, both of these poets wrote poems and prose praising both the natural and the cultural virtues of the Lakes Region.
