Is it worth having a speed limit for this reason? The 50K question for sure, but it's certainly never going to be a deterrent except for those that actually obey the law.
Is there value in having the additional statute to use? How many times were current laws about distance from shore and prudent speed used? The speed limit is yet another option to add to a list of charges for a Captain Bonehead but impacts otherwise law abiding boaters who are traveling at a safe and prudent speed.
