Question: Four Winns Boat Trailer

I could use the help of my fellow forum members with this question.

I am looking at buying a ( Lake Winni always ) used 1995 Four Winns 220 Horizon... ( 21.6 feet ) with no trailer.

I have found a 24 foot new Four Winns factory trailer for sale, (private party). Logic tells me that the 220 Horizon will fit, but age and experience tells me to remember that Murphy and his law has riden shotgun many times in my life.

So what say you all.. will it fit ? ... Will the 2 extra feet make that much of a difference ?

If the winch arm can be adjusted up and down the trailer, it shouldn't be a problem. Generally the winch arm will hold the boat where the tongue weight on the tow vehicle will be about 100 lbs.

If the trailer has bunkers, the tail end of the bunkers should extend to the transom, otherwise the weight of the motor may form a 'hook' if not properly supported. Rollers are not a problem.

Picture makes it look like the winch tower is somewhat fixed in place... have not done a walk around on the trailer yet, so not 100% sure on winch tower construction.

I would definitely not buy a trailer that was too long unless it was super deal and the boat would be launched at a marina by a forklift, etc. If a bunk trailer is a little short but rated for your weight capacity then bunks can usually be extended quite easily. Good luck.

The trailers that come with Four Winns boats are not adjustable, all of the bunks and the winch stand are all welded in place. Your boat will probably not fit properly on that trailer.

What a super group of people. I have learned so much about " Things " by reading various post and I am amazed by the knowlegde base that people have and are willing to share.

You have confirmed my idea that it's a welded unit .. boat size specific.

I really like the boat, but if I buy now without a trailer I will have to assume the winter storage fee, that I have been told ranges from 780 to 900 for a boat this size, including the winterizing effort

In my youth, pre wife / kids / mortgage etc, I had a brand new 21 foot century raven... just like the MP's used for years and I would take it home everywinter, put it in my barn, give it it's winter TLC treatment and wait for spring. That is what I want to do with whatever boat I buy..... thus the trailer.

Four Winns web site says that if you are trying to find a boat trailer for a four winns boat you already own you should check with a dealer as the factory keeps the tooling for some out of production boat trailers. Lots of good experience with Winnisquam Marine. I have always been impressed with how well my four winns trailer is built.

a four winns trailer is made to each specific boat size. the winch stock is welded to the the trailer and to be moved it must be cut and re-welded. it is a $200-$400 or more ordeal. the good side to a four winns trailer is that the tongue has a swing type movement. very convenient when space is limited.

up to you if you like the trailer. another place to check out for a good deal would the trailer outlet in tilton. its by winnisquam and the mini golf course.

The owner of the boat elected to take a higher offer than mine .... AKA original asking price, so my need for a trailer evaporated with the sale.
