Default Moose

Disclaimer

OK... this is not a Lakes Region moose. My sister, however does visit the lake every few years, (hope that gets me a pass on posting this) sent these pictures today. The pictures and story is just too funny not to share.

Here is her comment pasted from her email. (Her husband is the Stephen she mentions)

"Stephen likes to bring the horse's morning supply of hay up from the hay barn each night and set in near the driveway so it's quicker to feed horses in the morning. A bull moose has been stealing it though - so clever Stephen decided to set the hay on the porch to keep it from the moose.

So...how's that working Stephen?"

Default moose

Great shots -- I can only imagine having a moose of that size grazing on my deck. What a beautiful animal! Thank you for posting the photos, SteveA!

Default A "Northern Exposure" moment

Great photos, SteveA. Reminds me of the 1990s (I think) television series, "Northern Exposure". I have seen many Moose on Shaker Jerry Road as well as Moultonboro Neck Road, but to have one appear on a porch, enjoying a meal of HAY...absolutely surreal! Thanks for sharing.

Default How did I miss this thread?

When I married my wife, I dragged her up to Eielson AFB AK, driving there in our VW bus, logging right at 4800 miles. We had an apartment at Northgate Apartments which were located a mile and a quarter north of the base on the Alaska highway, then a two lane road from the base to Fairbanks.

Heating pipes ran throught the floor in these one story apts, and kept the ground next to the apartment outer wall snow free most of the time, out to about 2 ft from the building.

The first morning we got up in our new apartment, my new bride made the bed, and then took hold of the drapes and pulled them open. If the window had been open, she could have reached out the window and touched a bull moose with a really nice rack. He just looked at her, and put his head back down, eating the little bit of grass that was next to apt.

Now if we only had a cell phone with a camera in Dec. 1969.

Default You didn't miss it UPTHESAUKEE

You were just a bit behind the rest of those who saw it in 09. Course I was late myself until "you" no longer missed it.
