Default Water temps

50 degrees today -- despite the warm late summer/early fall, the recent normalization of air temps has brought the lake to within a degree of where it typicially has been each of the last 5 years or so for this date. 2002 was the only year with a large variance (45 degrees).

Think cold.

Had our first frost of the year yesterday. The boardwalk is a sight to behold covered in early morning frost.

Of course, with the turkey plunge just a few weeks away it could have waited!

I guess no one can argue that your not a hardy islander..... How much longer do you plan on pushing the season? I don't have the guts to push even this late.......

The water still has almost 20 degrees to fall before it freezes. Despite the fact that it feels cold out, this year's temps are still a lot warmer than they were at this time the last few years. My station didn't even record any nights in the 20s this October - unusual.

We actually stopped staying on the island 3 weeks ago due to commitments every weekend and a FL trip, otherwise I would have pushed it to the end of October. Our water system is not set up for cold weather so we had it shut down 2 weeks ago. I am heading out this weekend to hopefully finish the last tasks and pull the last boat. I am sure pressure washing one of our boats tomorrow will be fun in the early morning temps, my pressure washer will probably act as a snow gun!

Codeman:

Look at he bright side of things. You will be breaking out your airboat pretty soon for ice rides! That looks like lots of fun.

I went for my last ride today on the pontoon and pulled it for the season. I am surprised how many boats are still in. Most are probably islanders that haven't closed up or are in the process.

You know FLL,I don't agree with most of your posts, and I think a lot of them are just to stir up the pot, but I got to say my hats off to you for being the most die hard boater on Winni.

Default Last Hurrah

We came out last night just after dark -- later start than I'd like, but got a late start after Turkey Day with relatives in Hopkinton. Boating through rain and fog without GPS -- ah the adventure - and not for the inexperienced. Very very familiar route for us. Love that Honda 4-stroke.

Just above freezing today and quite breezy. Mount Washington comes in and out of view as the clouds blow through. Saw one other boat today but otherwise very quiet. Nice.

Replacing the mono and hooks on my tip-ups today. About to drain the water system (after firing it up yesterday!) as the temps are going to fall to the teens tonight.

Ice-in is coming....

Why no GPS? It seems like cheap insurance for someone who is boating as late in the season as you are. Be careful out there.

Default Merrymeeting Lake cam

Just watched some people pulling their pontoon boat on the Merrymeeting Lake cam. It's so windy, the rear of the boat kept swinging around before they could get it on the trailer all the way, requiring several plunges into the water to push the rear end around. The air temp at the Black Cat Weather cam site is 26.2 degrees and the water temp 44.6 at 4 feet...wonder what it was at Merrymeeting? I got cold just watching them.

Senior moment.... buried the GPS in a different piece of luggage than I thought. I had it, just couldn't find it! Even with the fog, you could see the outline of the shore if you stayed close enough due to the bright moon. Very familiar territory.

While I was up on the roof Friday hanging Christmas lights I watched a pontoon being pulled by another boat down towards Meredith! Hope they made it ok, there was a lot of chop and white caps out there.
