Default Ice is forming

The attached picture shows some skim ice on about 1/3 mile of open water, north of Moultonboro Bay. Its in an area that freezes before the south and western parts of the lake, but well after the coves. After three years of thin ice, and another warm fall, I had no hopes for New Years Day lake-walking this year, but its encouraging to see the skim forming.

Default Darn it

Darn, This is not encouraging. I was hoping for no ice. I am already going through Boating withdrawls....The less ice that forms the quicker I can get back to summer fun....even if it with a winter jacket on in early spring......

Default ....sunny & 50+ degrees predicted for today!

Right now at 2:30am , it's a foggy and drizzly 38 degrees. The radio weather guy on 94.9-WHOM, out of Portland, was talkn' a sunny 50 degrees for today. Hard to believe! Could be a good day to put some fresh gas in the six gallon tank and head for Sally's Gut, Meredith Bay, & the Weirs' Channel. That will be me, all by myself, in the boat with the orange & yellow striped bimini on the Weirs' Cam! Hey everyone, just get out and enjoy it........this weather cannot last!

Thumbs up Hopes for a white Christmas

If you want to read about the possibilities of snow around December 22'nd, and a epic winter after that, check out this professional weather prognosticator. http://dtwxrisk.blogspot.com/ David Tolleris is a contrairian, and a flamer, but is willing to change his mind the moment the data points in a new direction. He gets very deep into weather models, analogs and sea temperatures. A great blog that I think has been mentioned elsewhere in this forum.

Default Water Temperature

Water temperatures the past 6 years have averaged around 36, 37 degrees on 15 December, except for 2001 when the temperature was 41 degrees -- the same as it is this year on December 15. So while we are certainly above average, we've been here before.

Default Out of storage....

...Actually my dive gear has not made it in to storage this winter yet. And maybe it won't. Odd how the weather has been so far. It would be nice to get some ice for those who like to ice fish and so the shop can get in at least one ice diving class this season. The lack of ice will , however, cut down on the number of skimmers on their snowmachines that we have to go pull out of the water!
