Was standing outside this morning and heard the steady and slow rat-a-tat-tat of a Pileated Woodpecker. Couldn't get an angle to get a clear shot to get the focus to be really sharp...too many branches. These are very large woodpeckers, over a foot tall, with an all red head, much like "Woody Woodpecker" of cartoon fame.

nice photo even if it is a bit blurry. I got a new digital/slr with telephoto lenses for Christmas this year and am still having problems with the lenses focusing on the twigs instead of the subject.

On my umteenth re-reading of the instruction book, I found if I come off automatic to "P", I can narrow the focus area of the view finder and maybe eliminate some of this problem. Too bad, cause I missed a cardinal in a tree just this past weekend for the same reason, too little bird, too many twigs .
