sonj - that's a Black-Capped Chickadee - one of my favorites for their cheerful song: "chick-a-dee-dee-dee-dee". They're polite at feeders, taking only one seed and flying off to enjoy it, and allowing others a turn at the feeder port. They seem tireless in their desire to delight - singing all day! Yup - they're wonderful.

Their other call is a whistled "fee-bee". (Not to be confused with the buzzy "fee-bee" of the Phoebe flycatcher). Especially when near the nest, the Chickadee's "fee-bee" can be barely audible.
To make your birdhouse for Chickdees-only, make the entrance hole exactly 1-1/8", and out of the direct sun. They're excellent parents, and often will nest a second time within days of the first.

"Common Sense" isn't.
