Several times before this photo was taken, I'd raced on this track's road course. Part of the original road course included about ¼ of the oval to the upper right.

Two fatalities at the same turn (Irwin and Petty—two months apart) caused a major repaving of the oval. The road course also got a major revamping and has received good reviews from road racers. The original road course was easy to learn, but included some scary track sections. (For example, edge-on concrete Jersey barriers just off the edge of the track
