Hobblebush is a common and important understory plant in the forests of NH. It can grow to be up to 6 ft tall and grows with many stems, usually becoming a very large shrub - and many individuals often combine together to make extensive thickets. It likes moist mixed woodlands or even small wetland areas. It produces large compound flowers which provide many seeds for songbirds and other animals. In winter, moose and deer sometimes eat the large leaf buds produced each fall for the next spring season - such plants usually become stunted, however.
