At the far left is Mt Tripyramid (volcanic in origin); at left center is Mt Whiteface; at right center is Mt Passaconaway, named for NH's most famous Indian chief - legend suggests that his remains were buried there when the Penacooks, his tribe, left NH for Canada in the face of hostility from the colonists; he was considered a powerful sorceror by the Indians, and by many whites as well; he was the leader of the most powerful Indian confederation of tribes in northern New England.
