The Marsh Marigold, one of our earliest spring flowers, was much used by the early settlers as a first fresh vegetable, much welcomed after dreary winter fare (without correct preparation, it can be toxic). It once grew abundantly in wet places - it's harder to find now since so much wetland has been filled in. Last Spring, this one was found flowering in the ditch at the junction of 11A and 11B in Gilford.
