That building sits abutting the Melvin River. I don't remember when the Pope dam was built next door. Marion Horner Robie operated the local telephone exchange and the Post Office from there. Our telephone number in Melvin Village was "10—ring twice". With most long-distance calls, you often had speak loudly to be heard at the other end. Even back then, everything in Melvin Village seemed very old and quaint.
Diagonally across the street was The Village Dining Room, with very nice appointments, meals and treats. The building is still there, but appears too small to have had a restaurant in there.
