So long to the old 1940's engines that made a very distinctive chug-chug-chug sound with their low speed cranking revolutions ..... and hello ....to the much less distinctive high-speed putt-putt-putt-putt sound of these low emissions and much more efficient use of expensive diesel fuel.
At a price of about $750,000; these two new Caterpillar diesel marine engines were secured and paid with a grant from the 2009 "Cash for Clunkers" federal program.
While I miss the distinctive sound of the old engines which could be heard a long distance across the water, the new engines were a steal of a deal and could be in use for the next fifty years.
