Avery Hill is near the end of the Alton Mt Road, immediately to the east of Hills Pond. This photo, taken this morning from the top of the mountain (below freezing, with some ice forming at the shallow N end of Hills Pond), shows the near view to the west, with 3 local peaks of the Belknap Range the focus of attention. A relatively easy trail (short) to the top of Shannon provides fine views to the south, east and west from 3 view sites - you can see the open ledge at the top that provides views to the south,
