A photo of a week ago - it shows 3 of the 4 levels of the summit of Shaw. On the north side of the peak, out of view from this angle, is a 4th level, somewhat lower in elevation than any of these 3. No other mountain in the range is higher than any one of these visible levels of the summit. The level at the front, closest to Winnipesaukee, was the most easily seen of the levels from the northern shores of the lake, so it was given a name of its own, Black Snout, and has a trail leading to it to provide access to the superb view south of Winnipesaukee and the surrounding mountains which it offers. The highest level has a trail leading to it which provides the most expansive view north to the White Mountains of any peak in the Lakes Region.
