Default Route 104 repaving

Who knows the route 104 repaving schedule, and good alternate routes?

I ran into that awful backup on 104 heading over to I93 last night just before 8:30. The backup cost me an extra half hour. I first thought they'd be using flag people to alternate E/W traffic over one lane, and that with more west bound traffic than east the delay wouldn't be too bad. I don't know what they were doing, but there were 10-15 minute intervals of going nowhere. In hindsight, I ought to have turned around and gone down Parade Road and to I93 that way, although I wondered how bad traffic dumping out of the Paugus Bay/Winnisquam onto route 11 would be.

How long will this project run - anyone?

Here's the link to the NH DOT traffic report (511): HERE

Here's the info about the paving and schedule - looks like it's going on into mid/late August:
Authorized the Department of Transportation to enter into a contract with C.L.H.. & Son, Inc of Auburn ME on the basis of a low bid for $475,340.49 for culvert replacement on I-93 in Ashland, NH Route 104 in Alexandria, NH Rte.11 in New London and NH Rte. 25 in Meredith from G&C approval through Aug. 14, 2009. 2) Further authorizing that a contingency in the amount of $47,534.05 be approved for payment of latent conditions, which may appear during construction of the project. 80% Federal Funds and 20% Highway Funds.

Maps suggest a path from Rte 25 at Ctr Harbor to I93:

25B to Rte 3, south, then right onto Waukewan Road, to its end at Winona.
Right on Winona, left onto Straits Road, follow to its end at Dana Hill Road.
Left on Dana Hill, to Town House Road, right to its end at Rte 104 just east of Rte 132.

How is Straits Road? The map suggests its a typical 30 mph minor back road. That's ok, if the alternative is sitting still on 104 for a half hour.

I'm thinking the mid August completion date is for all of those projects, not just 104. They already have the eastbound lane of 104 paved from Meredith Center Road to New Hampton. I think that's the only paving they're doing between Meredith and I93 so the actual paving part of the project is half done.

We were stuck in it too....bad planning to start on a Sunday night, I understand night paving is a good idea but not on a weekend that was full of Sun! I think alot a people stayed late because of the good weather.

I am glad to hear they are half way done.

Default Done

The section of 104 from Meredith Center Road to just shy of the 35 MPH section in New Hampton is complete (minus painting).

A portion of Straits Rd. is packed but well-maintained dirt. It's hilly in spots and there are a couple of tight curves. We always used that route when going to and from Moultonboro on a busy weekend. I loved taking my Passat on that road.
