Barge Accident
Watched Lakes Region Marine Construction, recover a Barge from another Marine Contracter, as well as one of their excavators, and bobcats. The barge capsized, sank and lost the load. They were able recover the equipment and barge without incident.
There was a dive team from Dive Winnipesaukee, a couple divers from Lakes Region Marine Construction, and some other companies. An amazing sight Hope it doesn't happen again. And I didn't see any oil slicks, looks like the orange boom worked. |

Photos
Recovering the heavy equipment that ended up on the bottom of the lake was quite an involved process. The following photos were taken at about 1:45 PM yesterday (6/16) along the southern shore of Rattlesnake Island. Several other barges, and many boats and people, were involved in the salvage operation. It reportedly took two cranes on two barges to bring the backhoe to the surface and get it to land. The salvaged backhoe, and the actual barge that tipped over, are at the shoreline in the first photo below, but they are mostly obscured by the other barges. The salvaged barge can be seen better in the second shot, with its pilothouse smashed.

Back in service
After lots of mis-steps and oil spills, the formerly-overturned barge took a shakedown cruise last Thursday. (Forgot to mention it back then).
