Smile High Speed Internet Finally to the Islands

For those of us with power from New Hampshire Electric Co-Op, we will finally be able to get high speed internet to the islands! This is from the NHEC website:

Mar 14, 2006 - NHEC to Launch WildBlue™ Satellite Internet Service

PLYMOUTH, NH – New Hampshire Electric Co-op (NHEC) today announced it will introduce WildBlue™ satellite Internet service this spring, providing high-speed Internet connections to homes and small businesses in NHEC service territory.

With access speeds that can be comparable to DSL and cable modem services, WildBlue allows users to retrieve information and access rich content that is not available through dial-up modems. It provides a continuous online connection, so subscribers don’t tie up phone lines. Plus, the faster speeds save users time and businesses money.

“NHEC made its name in the 1930’s by bringing electricity to areas of the state that could not otherwise get service,” explained NHEC President/CEO Fred Anderson. “With the launch of WildBlue, we are renewing that pioneer spirit by making the many benefits of high-speed Internet access available to our members, many of whom have been forced to choose between dial-up service or no service.”

NHEC is offering several service packages to accommodate various user needs, including a residential service that has a retail price of $49.95 per month. Two small office/home office packages have a retail price starting at $69.95 per month and feature download speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps (or up to 30 times faster than dial-up).

As part of its launch, NHEC will offer consumers the WildBlue satellite equipment and professional installation for a market-leading low price of $300 upfront. This is a savings of $179.95 over the installation cost for consumers not purchasing this service through NHEC.

WildBlue uses a 26-inch satellite mini-dish for two-way satellite connectivity to the Internet. WildBlue does not require cable or phone lines. It is accessible to virtually every home and small business in the continental .

NHEC is currently mailing informational packets and service contracts to qualified members. NHEC members interested in the power of satellite-delivered, high-speed Internet service should contact NHEC at 1-800-698-2007.
