New "style" of insurance? Anybody here have it?

While I'm happy with Stste Farm, I'm hearing the ads on iHeart radio (WRKO, WMAL) and am tempted to check them out.

They're saying their app will enable them to determine if you're following all the "rules of theroad." And, because we're "all above average" your premium will be adjusted downwards.



Obviously, since I don't even know how to spell it, I have no financial interest in this endeavor.

A sensor in your car can record if you accelerate too quickly, jam on the brakes, roll through stops and otherwise drive erratically, i.e. more prone to accidents. Some companies will provide such a device and after a time period, moat or may not offer a discount. Never heard of this in NH.

Found with much anguish. To copy the comprehensive "Linked-in" quotes, I had to log in--which hasn't happened in a decade--so to log in, I was to take a "selfie" of my face--centered, left and right sides.

That's NOT going to happen!

Spoke with one local person who signed up for something similar.

This insurance company mandated an electronic device to be placed in the OBDII slot. The slot under dash on left side that all automotive mechanics use to diagnose mechanical problems.

This insurance company would rebate $75.00 every 4 months for good driving.

Well . . . he got nothing. As the insurance company stated that he went over the speed limit while driving. Not excessive speeding. Just a tad over the speed limit. Not all the time. Just more than one time.

Nada. Zippo. He got nothing in return.

And how do they know the speed limit? I drive to Portland on Rt 25 and there are several places (Freedom for one) where the "published" speed limit on the dashboard (which I assume comes from some database) does not match the posted signs... Now some insurance company has a record that this driver is a 'speeder'? No way would I ever agree to such a thing. Hopefully it does not come back haunt your acquaintance...

So the insurance companies are willing to "reward" you for being "good" with a very strict definition of being "good".

Once they are monitoring you, how long would it be before you are being punished for being "bad"? You pay an extra $75 every 4 months if you exceed the speed limit by less than 5 MPH. If you exceed it by more than 5 MPH it's $200 extra every 4 months.

Insurance is a money game and they will rig it any way they can to make more money.

The money is one thing, but nothing good can come of the documented reality - that is discoverable in a law suit - that you regularly exceed the speed limit. Everyone surely does that from time to time - but would you want to see a plaintiff's attorney produce verifiable evidence that you were a speeder in the unfortunate case of a liability suit?

OBD3 or OBDIII.

A proposal. It's in the thought stages presently. Not implemented yet but some are working on such.

Do your own investigation of implications of OBD3. Be sure to check the worst case scenarios of OBD3.

Sometimes many wait until it is too late to complain or to take action.
