I reached out to Marine Patrol to confirm the current rules in 2025. Here's the latest:
The administrative rules for eFoils are new and were not adopted at the time of the last printing of the NH Boat Ed Handbook. The checklist will be updated at the time of the next edition. Saf-C 401.09 “eFoil” means a vessel that consists of a board fitted with a mast extending below the board that is attached to a fuselage with a forward wing, rear stabilizer, and electric motor or gasoline engine. The term also includes mechanically propelled personal hydrofoil (MPPH). This definition does not include non-motorized hydrofoils. e-Foils can be operated by users under 16 years of age. They are not powered by a motor in excess of 25 horsepower. A NASBLA approved safe boater certificate is not required for e-Foil use. Certificates are only required when operating vessels in excess of 25 HP. (I personally recommend taking the course). A boat registration (or copy) IS required to be on board when in operation. Bow numbers, validation decals (both square and round) are required to be displayed. Minimum bow number size for vessels also apply to e-foils. Life Jackets must be worn during operation. Helmets are a personal choice. (I personally recommend them.) Whistles must be carried during operation. (I didn't ask about bells or Horns 😉 ![]() No nighttime operation is permitted and all other existing speed limits, rules for navigation and safe passage apply. Have fun and be safe out there! |

Correct me if I'm wrong- but is there space on a hydrofoil to post 3" bow numbers and two decals on both sides that is viewable to Marine Patrol? Even sail boats don't have to show bow numbers until (I think) 16' long...

Yeah, the "bow" numbers are pretty much front to back numbers.
