Hummingbirds 2025

Put all the feeders out yesterday knowing I was seven to ten days early. Guess not. I've seen two visits today. Likely females heading north. Get your feeders out!

Same day as last year.
Male, ruby throated hummingbird showed up multiple times in the afternoon.

I just put the feeder out yesterday.
Are there better areas than others? I had it hanging from the overhang on my house for a few years and it seemed to attract a lot of action. Then I hung it from my shed and didn't notice as many. Now I went back to hanging it from my house but this time I hung it in front of a window, we'll see.
I don't know if hummingbirds like windows?

The females do, they can primp. The males not so much.

One of the problems with windows is that the hummingbirds can have trouble seeing that they are there, especially when they start chasing each other. We have our feeders in front of windows and occasionally they will fly into them. They seem to shake it off but I suppose they could get hurt. There's no way to really tell.

If it happened more frequently, I would probably move the feeders but it's usually only once or twice a season, AND the windows give us a spectacular view of them especially when they start getting into their territorial antics.

We saw our first hummingbird yesterday 5/2 at the feeder. A small one. Must have lost weight on the trip north, LOL.

I put my feeders up when I saw this post, and have yet to see a single one. I usually get a lot of them. I did get a lot of Orioles though, but haven't seen any for two days now, so maybe they're done with oranges and nectar now...

They are still here. I love how they come up to the window looking to see us. They come and hover, waving at us and come closer when we wave to them. One actually came and touched the window.

There were three at my Rose of Sharon bush yesterday. They came and went all day thats a first in 20 years.

I think I may have diluted the liquid too much or the liquid is old, haven't seen too many around the feeder this year.

I still have at least one left. As I was reading this thread a few minutes ago, I looked out at my feeder, and lo and behold, there was a female helping herself to some nectar.

I know that I am close to the end of the season, and will not refill the feeder when it is empty. I don't want to have the hummingbirds overstay their visit.

Those at the feeder in front of the house have left. They were greenbacks and males. The other feeder is busy with females. I made some new nectar this morning.
