Hi All,
We are a family of 4 {2 boys 13 & 10} looking to spend a week in august at the lake. How is Samoset? It looks looks very nice on the web but looks can be deceiving. We have nver been to the Winnipesaukee area before and would like to stay somewhere nice and family orientated. Thanks for any help |

Hi
I do not know about Samoset, but lived at South Down Shores in Laconia for years, which is nice because of the private beach area, playground area. It's safe for bikeriding, etc. Another location (on other side of the Lake) is Suissevale. This is where we are living now. These are private homes, Southdown is mostly condos with some private homes. Suissevale has a terrific beach, that has a no-wake zone in front of it, so you dont' get tossed around with big waves like you do at Southdown. The beach is on an island, reachable by a small bridge. There is a nice playground. I suggest you contact Roche Realty for Southdown rentals 1-800-926-5253 or contact Preferred Property for Suissevale rentals 603-253-7811. GOod luck and have fun. |

I owned a condo at Samoset until this fall. It's definitely clean and family oriented. A lot of owners use it as a summer home. Mom and the kids stay up all week, Dad works all week and comes up on the weekend. The beach is nice but small and the waves can get big on weekends or windy days. There is a large sandy area behind and above the beach for sunbathing. The main pool is nice but usually filled with small kids.
Two things you should know, Samoset is on a steep hill. So if you rent a high numbered unit, the walk back from the beach is tough. Second there are no boating facilities for renters. All the dock and moorings are for owners only. You could bring a canoe/kayak down, but there is no place to store it near the water and carrying it up and down the hill is tough. |

Before long people are going to think I'm affiliated with Abakee I promote it so much (trust me, I'm not, yet perhaps I should look into a commission fee
![]() TMB -- check out this website www.abakeecottages.com it is a VERY family oriented place -- private beach with a raft to swim out to and a limited number of slips (should you have or plan to rent a boat). It's proximity to Wiers would be perfect your kids -- close enough you can walk and yet far enough that your in no way bothered by the hustle bussle when your at the cottages. If you want greater detail, give a post and I will e-mail you. We have spent a number of years there with our kids -- who have since grown and rent their own cottages there now. |

The only openings are last week August - and with kids - they'll be back in school or sports atthat point.

We just bought an old camp in Winter Harbor which we are going to rent next summer. Also my Mother has a camp there which she rents. They are both old, not like condos with washer and dryer and diswasher etc. But they both have private sandy beaches and both would be great for kids. Ours is smaller, the other is bigger. If you are interested, pm me.
