(This is not an April Fools Day question)
When I was a teenager in the 1960s, I recall a proposal that either came to a vote or was defeated by opposition before voting to bypass Wolfeboro by extending Cross Road across Lake Wentworth on a bridge/causeway rejoining NH 28 near the 7-11 where 109 turns East. Is this dementia setting in, or was there ever such an official proposal? If it was real, any accounts or links to the history would be much appreciated. |

You are correct. It would start around the high school which would be Cross Road area and bypass Wolfeboro. They had a transportation committee and my father was on the committee. I don't think the bridge was going across Wentworth though.

I remember those discussions, and I also remember the outcry they produced about by-passing the main business (economic) section of Town. All in all, the traffic congestion is a limited time of the year, and, IMHO could be substantially resolved with a traffic officer posted at the intersection of Rt 28 and Rt 109, and another traffic officer walking the Main Street section between the Town Hall and Wolfeboro Inn.
