Default Change in Milfoil Treatment Legislation

Ed Neister has been the force responsible for the successful eradication of milfoil on Lower Suncook Lake in Barnstead (See link for more info... http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3nm2c/s...pond/id11.html) and this Fall was about to begin milfoil eradication in the Suncook River, however, the abnormally high water levels postponed the treatment. He now acts as a consultant to other lakes and associations attempting to deal with the permitting process for chemical treatment. Ed has contacted me regarding the proposed legislative changes in the milfoil eradication process and has asked me to pass this information along. If you or your association has gone through this process he asks for letters of support or possibly someone to speak with him at the legislative hearings. Here is his note and e-mail address should you want to contact him.

"Subject: call for support; Jan 19

Hi all,

There are two bills in the State House 1407 and 1317 dealing with funding and changing the permitting process for treating milfoil. I will be sending more information about these bills tonight, but just wanted to give you a heads up first. Anyone that can write up a page or two or speak for 3 minutes about their experiences dealing with DOA and the problems of getting permitted to treat milfoil would be very helpful. The meetings are 9:30 am and 10:45 am in Room 305 of the Annex.

HB 1407 addresses the repeal of the sunset provision on the prevention and research grant funding on water milfoil.

HB 1317 is relative to changing the permitting agency from DOA to DES.

I would be happy to include any of your letters with my information if you can't make the meeting. I would need to have them by Wednesday Jan 18.

Thanks, Ed"
