Along the roadside and on a side of a brook , just wondering if anyone else knows of location and explanation of what and why

Here's what I was told when I found this in 2017:

"Yes that is the tracking on Sodom road for the saw Mill that made the road sowdem logs ? Thus sawdem roed... simple I already asked town to rename it Melvin River road"
