Hi there,
I'm planning my first trip to Lake Winnipesaukee during mid September (9/15-9/19), and I was hoping someone here might have a suggestion or two as to where a good place to stay is. I need a nice clean room or cottage on the lake, with a king-size bed and full bath. My budget is $150/night or less. After reading some of the posts, it really seems like a great place to visit. Can't wait! Thanks for any help you can give me. ![]() |

My first suggestion would be to start with the "Lake Links" button on the homepage of this site. Once there, click on "Accommodations", or other related areas, to access a really thorough list of websites for area hotels, motels, cottages, etc. This way, you can "check out" the various options first hand, so to speak.
It's really hard to make any one recommendation without a little more info. For instance, would you prefer a quaint little spot, or a place in the thick of things? Do you prefer a cottage style rental, or a hotel with indoor pool? The more info you can provide, the more we can help narrow down our recommendations. Whatever you decide, you're sure to enjoy this beautiful area!!!!!!!!! ![]()

Welcome kudzu!
Browse through the rentals in the classifieds, many of them offer nightly rates in September or discounted weekly rates that are cheaper than $150 per night. Also, go to Lake Links into lodging and rentals. What part of the lake would you like to be? Would you like the busier Weirs area or somewhere more secluded and peaceful? Do you have children to entertain or a boat to dock? Once you narrow down your search, the forum members may be helpful for input. September is a beautiful time to come to the lake. (Although anytime is perfect for me!) Good luck in your search, I hope you find just the right spot. RG |

I guess Pepper beat me to the post!
![]() Hi Pepper! It was great to see you and the gang on Sunday! kudzu, while at the lake, stop in and meet Pepper at Waldo Pepper's. She is an excellent hostess and the food is wonderful. They have become famous for the lobster rolls. Mmm. ![]() |

Hi, thanks for all the quick responses!
We have no boat to dock and don't need a pool, no kids. Living in Naples, FL we get in plenty of time in the water. More interested in beautiful, natural surroundings for walks and time outdoors in comfortable weather. Definitely leaning towards some quiet time, but would like a short drive to restaurants and some local shops. A cottage would be nice, but I'm a little picky about accomodations. Clean and comfortable is important. I just don't know what to expect from cottage rentals. A condo or hotel would be okay too. I was hoping someone might have a recommendation of a place they'd actually stayed at that was nice. Will definitely stop by for a lobster roll! Sounds great! ![]() |

would consider the mills falls inn's in Meredith . The Church landing one has great water front with chairs to relax. There are four inn's with various prices but don't know the specifics. They have a web site

Hey there,
You could try the Tuckernuck Inn in Meredith. The owners are very nice, the price is right, and its very clean and quaint. Its a short walk to the Mills Falls Marketplace (shopping) and several restaurants. However, it's not on the water and doesn't have water views either, but its still a great place. The Olde Orchard Inn in Moultonborough is another nice place. Again, nice owners, clean, and charming. This one is a more removed from "civilization", although you could walk to the Woodshed (a restaurant that a lot of us Forum Folk love). Its a short drive to Wolfeboro (great shopping and food options). The Inn isn't on the water either but its a short walk to the lake. Great location. Very quiet. The hotels in Meredith (the four mentioned by previous posts) are nice and two of them are on the water (the other two have water views) but you'd be hard pressed to get a room for under $150. And unfortunately, they usually require at least a two night minimum. But give them a call. I personally like B+B's and it sounds like that may be what you're looking for. The two I listed are the only two I've stayed at around the lake. I'm sure there are other places equally as nice, so you could always ask around about others. Good Luck!!

Isn't that weekend the Nascar Race weekend? If so, then most hotels will already be booked. You may want to concentrate more on the camps that people are offering to rent out.

Feb is absolutely correct. The timeframe for your trip falls precicely on the days when the Nextel Cup teams and fans will be here. Teams arrive on Thursday and check out on Sunday morning, with the race itself taking place Sunday afternoon. As a general rule, the September race does not draw as large a number as the July race, but locating a room in the more congested areas of the lake could be a bit of a challenge!
Keeping this in mind, you may want to concentrate on accomodations in Wolfeboro, Moultonboro, Tuftonboro, etc. That side of the lake is likely to be much less crowded that weekend, due to it's distance from the track. Meredith, Weirs Beach and Gilford are all prized by teams and fans because of their ease of access to the track. I live here, so I cannot offer any first-hand reviews of any of the places you might choose. Other members can perhaps make suggestions like jkjoshuatree has done above. Let us know if and when you locate a place!
