Wheel Chair Ramps

Anyone out there familiar with Modular Aluminum Wheel Chair Ramps ?

Thinking about installing at my parents, although more expensive than building a ramp, appears it could be put together in less time and appears it would be easier to modify and/or resell.

Just looking to see if anyone has some experience that may be useful to me.

I used Amramp. I was going to have a ramp built but one of the persons giving me a quote said it was cheaper for me to get a modular ramp than a wooden one. It was installed in one day. Mine is a straight ramp, approximately 28 feet long and I beleive the the cost was around $2800.00. The one thing I like with the metal ramp is snow and ice can melt easily on it and last winter when there was snow and/or ice it was not slippery.

there are also companies out there that will sell you used ramps as well. When my dad passed, my mother called up the company that installed his and they bought it back from her because they resell them

We have discussed this possibility, but have yet to find a company that sells used modular aluminum ramps.

If it's only a short span ,you might be able to use aluminum ramps that you can buy at Lowes or the Tractor Store for loading pickup trucks
They are 6' to 8' long and can be permanently fastened.

Unfortunately the deck we're trying to access is 33" off the ground. The suggestion is 1' per inch of incline. So we're talking a 33' long ramp at the least.

Meeting with an engineer tomorrow.

The 1" rule is the ADA requirement under the law, which to my knowledge only applies to commercial buildings.

Jbolty's right.. You don't have to enforce code on your self, but of course the less steep the easier.. Also need a landing when you change directions. There was a pretty good stairglide place in Concord, I know they could help you out but the name escapes me..

SIKSUKR is right, that's them . Guarantee they would know how to proceed..Also check Craigslist in the outlying areas..

Thanks everyone. It has become a none issue. We moved my father to a VA Assisted Living Facility in South Paris, Me. We no longer need the ramp.
