I need a new suit...

For a wedding, fortunately.

My diet has made me less fat so it's time to get a new one.

Where does one go around these parts to get a "moderately" priced suit?

My past suits came from:

Yale Genton (now closed)
Men's Warehouse

I am considering a little better one this time.

If Carhartt made suits I'd be getting fitted for one now but wifey says they don't.*

I think it would be worth the trip to George's Apparel in Manchester. Great quality, custom fitted and good selection. It's the only place I go for sports coats, suits and such. They may even have Carhart!

How about the Brooks Brothers outlet in Tilton? Decent quality for a reasonable price. The next step up is a specialty shop like the one Dan noted. The next step down would be a chain like Jos A Bank. Jos A Bank has an outlet in Concord. Let us know which option you choose. Good luck.

I just had a similar problem.. Macy's (Mall of NH) had really good pricing on men's suits. I found a really nice shirt (40% off) at Brooks Brothers (Tanger Outlets) Good luck!

The key to a good suit is the tailoring. No question that George's in Manchester has the best combination of quality, selection, fit and tailoring. They do suits and a few other things, but SUITS. My company used to schedule sales meetings in Manchester so all the guys from Mass. could go to George's. Management would never admit that of course, but that's the way things actually worked.

They do formal wear too. Buy a used tux for the price you pay to rent one. When it's in the closet, you'd be surprised how often you can use it. Change it up with a red cummerbund/bow tie for Christmas parties, green for St Pat's etc. I have a Mickey Mouse one for odd occasions, an alma mater one for reunions. Cheap and people (dare I say the ladies) love it.

George's does alterations forever on any suit you purchase from them. My husband bought his wedding suit there almost 29 years ago. If he needed his suit altered they would still do it for him. He is lucky though. He weighs the same as as he did on the day we were married.

Ditto this. I got my suit for my wedding at Brooks Brothers outlet and got it tailored at a tailor in Concord that cost as much as the suit. He went through EVERYTHING on the suit, not just getting the pants and arm lengths right. The results were outstanding! He also commented that it was a "nice suit".

Another thing to think about is your shirt. Most shirts are very boxy and have a lot of sloppy fabric around the waist. If you have lost enough weight, consider an athletic cut shirt to get rid of the extra material at the waist.

I have shrunk from portly to dumpy and hope to progess to "fit" by the next wedding in October of 2017.

My uncle turned me on to George's 38 years ago. I'm always amazed as to how efficient they are. Buying a suit and fitted takes all of 15 minutes. They'll mail the garment to you in a few days once finished. Great buying experience!

I have had good success with Burlington Coat Factory in Concord. I have bought two Tuxedos there, and they have them as separates, so I can get my sizes with no problem. Also got one sports coat.

Good selection, and if you are anywhere near a "standard" size, then you may find something you like. Sounds like you do not wear suits very often, so why spend the money on "George's" if you can get a good fitting, nice looking suit at BCF.

Just a suggestion. Doesn't hurt to look, and they do have changing rooms there.

Georges - hands down. Not only do they do free alterations for life - they also do free repairs. I caught my sport coat on a tiny nail that was sticking out of a wall at an old rustic restaurant and took it to them to get it fixed...I was absolutely shocked when they told me there would be no charge...and they did an amazing job!

I have shopped almost exclusively at Jos. A. Bank for about 20 years -- although the old-school suit salesman who could look at you and say "44 long" is a pretty rare commodity now, they still do a good job. I find them to be about the only place left to get an acceptable suit at a reasonable prices. They do tend to be one of those places that has nearly continuous sales -- you can get some great deals, but don't be the guy that goes on the one day the sale is off and pays full boat.

I haven't had much use for suits since moving here -- but I have visited the Concord store once and was happy with it.

A suit is great but may not get nearly as much use as a really nice sport coat and a pair of nice slacks.

When you buy a suit, the jacket and pants go together and really don't usually go well when mixed and matched with other slacks.
Sport coats go extremely well with lots of different color slacks, khaki's and jeans giving you lots more bang for your buck and more opportunities to wear them, mix and match and get more use for your money.

A nice sport coat and slacks are perfectly acceptable for a wedding.

My 2 cents but I know that your wife or significant other may have last say in the decision.

This is all true.

I don't plan on doing anything that requires nice clothes other than:

Weddings
Funerals
Indictments

I'll wear the suit for the first two and avoid the last one.
