Maiden Voyage Sunday or Not?

Hi! Have a new boat waiting at MVM and am thinking of heading north to take it out for its maiden voyage, but I don't have a place to bring it to until the weekend of the 1st, so they'd have to throw it back on the racks--should I bother?!

Of course, as I write this, I wonder if there will be an open slip there for a couple weekends...

Given all the stuff floating, and sometimes just below the surface, this time of year I probably wouldn't take a pointless joyride just for the sake of it.

Maybe I'm feeling overly cautious today, but why risk being down for the prime part of the season?

Where does the floating stuff go after Sunday?
What, typically, do you find floating out there (besides bobhouse parts?)

Been boating since March 16th, never an issue this year with floating debris. Perfect boating day today, go for it.

If you have to get your lake fix this weekend (supposed to be nice), Goodhue and Hawkins are having their demo days Saturday and Sunday!

My boat has been in for a week now and I have not seen any debris floating. I haven't been up to your side of the lake yet but go for it.

As far as debris is concerned, keeping an eye out for debris is an ongoing chore, perhaps a little more important soon after ice out because of debris left on the ice. That being said, I would guess that we have picked up floating debris from the lake in every month we have boated.

Most notably was a large branch, floating in the middle of the Broads, that was longer than my 25 ft bowrider! It was July, I believe.

So, go for the ride, and enjoy. Just keep your eye out for debris.

Floating debris is usually a problem just after the ice has gone out since anything that was on/in the ice is now floating freely. But it's been so long since Ice-Out now, most of this would either have been blown to shore or picked up by someone. (Being on an eastern shore, I can vouch for the fact that a lot of it ends up on shore )

I picked my boat up this weekend. I didn't see any debris on the lake. It was beautiful.

Boat ended up not being ready (we had previously scheduled May 1st), but MVM said they'd have it ready for Friday, just in time for the rain!

Was out on Wolfeboro bay on Saturday test driving a Cobalt A25, what a boat! A little cool with an east wind but nice!

I'm not surprised.

This time of year, marinas are always very busy. They are getting their own boats ready to be sold, prepping new boats for eager owners like you, prepping boats for people who can't wait to get in the water after ice out, prepping rental boats, and simply getting ready for the new boating season. They are probably not even fully staffed yet.

They have trouble meeting planned "ready" dates let alone early pickup. The marina I stored at wanted a planned date at least 3 weeks ahead of time and even then they might tell you they couldn't get it done if they had a crush of people already planned at the same time. "Early" was a funny foreign word. I was happy if they met schedule. I'm not knocking them. I have seen the issue and heard about the same thing from friends at many different marinas here and in different locales. It seems to be the nature of the business.

I guess I was thinking that since they had already installed our table and GPS that it was already good to go and just waiting for action. Sounds like they hadn't done the final cleanup and tests.

It's fine--there will be plenty of time to play on Boatie Two.
