Is it just me or is the Huggins Street fair diminishing year by year ?

Haven't been for a few years, but it seems to be smaller and less of an event. Back in the 60's it was the biggest thing to us as kids. We loved it.

Well, the traffic hasn't seemed to change any.

My family and I were there Saturday afternoon and at one point it appeared there were more yellow volunteer shirts than patrons. It's sad to see such a great event slowly dying along with our economy.

Chubs it is more likely that online flea markets such as EBay, Craig's List, etc. have dampened the enthusiasm for the Huggins Hospital Fair. It just isn't as special and unique as it was at one point in time. I don't think it has anything to do with the economy.

Since 2008 there has been a noticeable decline in attendance as well as product. Local businesses just don't have the extra money to donate as in the past. I won't go into all the things that have changed, but anyone who has been going to the fair for 40 years as I have will know what I am talking about.

They also have the barn open during the year now, so probably a lot of the better stuff gets sold before the fair.

I think the problem is a growing sense of apathy as the hospital and the fair have lost their small town feel and joy. The old hands that were the backbone and guiding force behind the fair are gone.
