Hi All,
Looks like we'll be keeping the boat west of Moultonborough Bay this summer, so we're looking for good swimming/relaxing/interesting places in that area to check out. Thanks! |

With all due respect, we all have our "secret" spots to throw the anchor overboard and swim, sleep, and read in the sun. If we told you where they were, they wouldn't be secret anymore! Part of the fun of Winni for us is to grab our Bizzer chart and explore, especially on weekdays. Find a place you can call yours and enjoy!

I'm not sure your "secret" (is that even possible on Winnipesaukee?) spot is where I'd be looking anyway! Looking mostly for non-weedy places.

I agree to the point of cruising around and finding your own spot. There are other threads about secret spots. I have difficulty understanding why they even start.
Next, you get a few friends together to chip in for a down payment and buy that favorite place. Per person, cheaper than you might think if it's an old camp with good waterfront, but no dock or other current improvements. There are some around. A dozen families at $2000-3000 per year can do this. Just use it as waterfront, because fixing and maintaining a building will break this all apart and you'll be banging nails instead of enjoying the lake. And the more you improve a building, the more tax you'll pay. I know it can be done, and your grandchildren will love you for it. Lots of lake side residents own their property as extended family and are in the third or fourth generation, sharing the expenses. Same concept. |

I really don't get the secret spot thing. My experience suggests that the lake isn't quiet enough for that, especially for weekends.
That being said, I was asking for places that my 3 and 5-year-olds could swim without getting tangled in lake weed. We'd hit up the sand bar or far side of that island whose name escapes me, but those will be a little far for shorter outings. |

I really enjoy Buzzell's Cove. Very nice place. Green's Basin, all the way in, is also awesome. It is difficult when swimming with kids, for there aren't many shallows left for them to get to, just floating spots.

Try the west side of 1/2 mile, near the island, rather than the shore.

Trick is to find those spots where only 2-4 boats could possibly anchor ( responsibly). We've been doing it for many years with my young Grandgirls. The killer is they call it " Secret Spot". Lol Hint to one location: I was gonna place one here, but then thought better of it ( sorry) ![]() . .
