My wife and I were deeply saddened yesterday to learn of the passing of Mel Borrin who married us on Aug 6th, 2011. He passed on September 8th. He was a great person and made our wedding such a wonderful celebration on his charter boat the Latitude 43. Many may also know him from Preferred Vacation Rentals.
http://www.latitude43charters.com/ His obituary listed his many accomplishments: MOULTONBOROUGH - Melvin "Mel" B. Borrin, 68, of Moultonborough, who was a well-known Lakes Region Realtor, entrepreneur, and charter boat captain, died at home Sept. 8, 2011. He was born March of 1943 to Lillian (Blicher) Borrin and Julius "Jules" Borrin. He was raised and educated in Montreal, Quebec, and moved to the United States in 1963. He graduated from Belknap College in 1967 with a bachelor of science in business administration and was the recipient of the 1967 Wall Street Journal Award for Economics. He was honored to become a U.S. citizen shortly after graduation. Mel was a lifelong entrepreneur and business owner, most recently enjoying his charter boat "Latitude 43." He established his first company, Preferred Properties, 44 years ago. He followed up shortly thereafter by creating Preferred Vacation Rentals. Mel was president and principal of Preferred Management and Consulting Services and held the position of president of Secret Harbour Beach Resort, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, for 19 years. Mel's professional memberships included the Lakes Region Board of Realtors (past member of the board of directors), Lakes Region Board of Realtors MLS (past president), N.H. Lodging and Restaurant Association (past board member and expo committee member); member, National Association of Realtors, N.H. Association of Realtors, International Real Estate Institute, New Hampshire Travel Council and the Caribbean Hotel Association. Mel's volunteer work included the Lakes Region Tourism Association (board member, past president, current treasurer). Greater Ossipee Chamber of Commerce, Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce, Squam Lakes Chamber of Commerce (past board member) and Laconia Area Chamber of Commerce, Long Island Association, Center Harbor/Moultonborough Chamber of Commerce (past president), Town of Moultonborough (retired 15-year volunteer firefighter; town moderator for 28 years; Planning Board chairman and past board member), Red Hill Outing Club (past president), Governor Wentworth Regional School District (past board member), Moultonborough School District (chairman, past board member and moderator), Moultonborough Academy (chairman of the building committee), State of New Hampshire Moorings Appeal Board member, Lakes Region Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Committee member, State of New Hampshire Right of Way commissioner, and Carroll County bail commissioner. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Alpine skiing, boating, water sports, photography and racquetball were among his favorite pastimes. Mel leaves his loving wife of 45 years, Tina (Crowe) Borrin, along with two sons, Eric of Dover and Mark of Moultonborough. He will be deeply missed by his daughter-in-law, Lori, of Moultonborough and his grandson, Evan, who is attending Purdue University. Mel leaves his brother, Joel, and sister-in-law, Hershene, of Atlanta, Ga.; and his brother, Carl, and sister-in-law, Sheri, of Rehoboth Beach, Del.
