Default Our Stay on the Lake

I've been a member for a while now and I don't post much, but I thought I would share the story of our stay on the lake. After a year of planning , my lovely better half and I were married on board the Mount Washington. Capt Leo O'Connell served as justice of the peace and performed a very nice ceremony. The staff for the Mount Washington was excellent, we had a great cruise around the lake, a lovely dinner was served, DJ Warren Bailey entertained our guests. The on board staff was very attentive to our guests needs. Chef Allen from Ooo la la creative cakes did a wonderful job on our wedding cake.

We had guests from Florida, New York, California, Massachusetts and NH join us, we visited many area establishments such as Cactus Jacks, Patrick's, Union Diner, The meals and service were great, and even for the kids Pizza Hut and MC Donalds.

We talked with many area motels before deciding to have our guests stay at Barton's. We made this decision for a number of reasons, the motor court style layout - which made it easily accessible for our older and handicapped guests who could drive right to their door. This is where the story goes down hill. I realize that is was after labor day, but if you are going to be open and taking our money than you should be providing guests with the services that you advertise. Such as the Wi-Fi- after numerous attempts and asking the owner, the signal which was very poor , disappeared all together. Barton's advertised the pool was heated ( this was confirmed in conversation as well) upon arrival we found out the pool was not heated, (for our Southern Guests) When asked about this we were told the pool would not be heated during our stay. The weather was gorgeous and sunny and we asked if they could put out a few pool umbrellas for our northern guests, we were told that they had taken them down during recent storms and would not be putting them back up. We unfortunately had to leave the area earlier than expected due to illness with more than 24 hours notice we still have not received a credit back for at least one night stay.
Other than the issues at Bartons, our guests enjoyed themselves and enjoyed the lake and area. Many have never been to the Lake and commented they would be back. We have always enjoyed the area , however next time we will not be staying at Bartons

Barton's appears to have violated their contractual obligations to you,

Talk to a lawyer.

last year my cousin and I were riding our mountain bikes around the area. We decided and yes you could consider it tresspasing not denying that, ride through their parking lot to take a look around, but we did not loiter or anything and were maybe on the parking lot for about 2 minutes max. We were stop by a very run down loooking person and asked if we were staying there. WE said no we were just looking around, and with a very sturn voice he told us to get out of there and don't come back

no problem we were never going anywhere near that place

Default We call it the Bates Motel

Was that a tall gangly guy? Can you say Norman? If so,that is the owner. I've stayed there a few times and realized that it is what it is, an old dated motel. It served its purpose but it sounds like you got the same feeling I did which was not very warm and fuzzy.

Default Was it written?

Having been involved with my fair share of business disputes about product/services provided, it comes down to a few things...

Is it worth your time and stress?
Is it worth the money to hire an attorney?
Can the accused afford to pay?

Where the services expected written down in black and white on their site or in a brochure or to you? Can you get them to verbally agree that offered the services and then backed out?

If they didnt offer it in writing then it may be a he said, she said.

I wish you luck.

Yes the main thing is congrats... Didn't/ don't plan to persue this at all.... Just had a hard time understanding that in todays economy, when you bring in 3k in business, they didn't try a little harder..... The other area establishments went out of their way to provide great service.

Does the Barton family still own the motel? I don't remember a Norman as owner. Perhaps the father, Mr.Barton has passed on and a son took over but his name was nor Norman.

My several stays there in times past were always the best and Mr.Barton was great as was the family. Haven't been in a while now.

Congrats to Coronado and all.

I think the "Can you say Norman?" was a reference to the Hitchcock Classic with Norman Bates who was the manager at the Bates Motel.

Right you are RG. Thought I made that pretty clear with the title of my post "We call it the Bates Motel". For some reason I felt the need to look around for peep holes.

Congrats on your Wedding. Next time if your staying a week or longer trying looking into rentals there are a ton of great water access and water front rentals. And our if you have the $$ Mills Falls in Meredith or The Margate 1/4 mile from Bartons.
