Wondering how the lake conditions are this weekend with all this warm weather. Have next week off, and wanted to vist the lake. Any snow left on the ground for nordic skiing? How about ice condiditons, how think, still safe to cross over by foot, and how much sitting water is there ontop of the ice? Is the snow so melted that you could even go hiking? suggestions on what to do other then go to gunstock if I drive out from Michigan this week. Thanks for your time. What a strange winter, from wicked cold and thick ice, to May like temps.

If you are coming for snow, don't bother. Trails are bare (except ski resorts where they make their own.) and the lake is becoming dangerous to cross. I was on it Saturday and there were many places with mush and others with puddles. There still is ice but the edges are taking a beating.

I was ice fishing March 6/7 and there's still 20" of ice where I was. The ice looks dark like it's melting with water infiltrating into it but that is not the case. It's just good, black ice with no snow on it.
