Default new LaDaSun format

www.laconiadailysun.com just replaced their old pdf format yesterday with a totally new design. Have you seen it? What do you think?

For me, the jury is still out, but one not-so-small problem is that the pages show in such small print that it is pretty much unreadable for me without looking hard and squinting. Maybe I am missing something and there's an easy way to correct this issue but I have not been able to figure it out?

Geesh- if this had been in NJ, they would've had his head on a stick. LOL

Much prefer the new format. My eyes can read it just fine, and they're not that good

Much easier to see what's going on, good change.

It appears they're using the same template as The Union Leader.

I agree it's a better format; a little more "this Century" than their last site.

I'm not a fan yet of the new format although one bright spot is that it loads alot faster. Gotta agree that even enlarged, the print is hard to quickly scan.

I actually prefered the old format. I liked to read the Sun first thing in the AM while eating breakfast and the old format let me actually browse the whole paper. With the new format I feel like it's too easy to miss things if the headline doesn't grab me. Plus, while it loads faster, you need to then click and load every article instead of just loading the paper once. However, it does feel more like they've arrived in this century!!

"He did not intend to be political"???? Please

I'd be equally outraged if someone told the students to repeat That Capitalism, Democracy, etc... were evil. I'm sure this guy would be the first in line to complain if that were the case. This guy apparently needs to learn more about the Constitution, and exactly what this country stands for.

Sometimes, people have to be told to shut up, even if you agree with their not so hidden agenda. What a dolt.

Default getting back on point...

I too like the old format. It was a lot easier to read, and easier to navigate. Maybe this format is easier to produce, and change.

One advantage of the old PDF format was the ability to easily scroll through a copy and the ability to easily save a whole copy to your local computer. Maybe PDF versions will still be available when the new format is completed but I doubt it.

I did not see a link to a search function on the new format page.

I did notice a login and register links at the top of the page apparently so that one can easily send in those daily letters to the editor.

Default Poor bandwidth management

It strikes me as if www.laconiadailysun.com has followed the wayward direction of traditional media when it comes to utilizing the World Wide Web (www). Too bad Imagine if they understood bandwidth management and interaction. Perhaps they do and they are hoping people will dislike their web site too return to the paper format. This certainly would be the case for anyone who is using dialup or some of the mobile phone/web devices.

For those who are interested in an unparalleled view in regards to this topic, come sit at my bar and converse. I'll share a view that is likely to boost power in your use of the www.

Before you come ponder this: NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC are four media outlets that as of 1992 had decades long relationships with hundreds of millions of Americans via the television. Along came the Internet and collectively they have spent billions on time and energy to promote the use of their web sites'. During the same time period many no name, out of nowhere, web site have emerged. The most successful of which might be Google. Why is it that when you combine the web activity from all the aforementioned TV networks you get a total that is less than the activity to google? Google spent no money to promote and had no inherited audience but gets huge returns. Who should one model a web strategy after?

I don't like it and I don't think the HTML was well written. No left margin if you view it in less that full width of your screen. The page displays differently in different browsers. Do they really need your browser to load over 20 CSS stylesheets to view a simple page?

You CAN view the paper in PDF format when you click on "Find Past Issue" but it goes to an FTP page that may confuse people. The "View Today's Print Edition" line doesn't do anything ... duh!!

I'll never understand why they had to change something that was working perfectly.

I still use 1 of the original links and it seems to work fine so far.

Default New Format

I like the old format as well. It is nice to just cruise through the paper, page by page. I learn more about the Lakes Region with that paper than I do reading the Citizen.
