Hurricane Earl down here in Narragansett
With much relief we have found that Earl is losing power as it heads North -
we are getting some good surf which is building by the hour and have had tropical torrential rain coming and going all day - the air is very heavy and humid, the tide is up right now and is still rising as the storm pushes the sea ahead of it. Narragansett was under a voluntary evacuation today but most stayed as the forcasts from NOAA were showing that we were more than likely to dodge the bullet this time. We should get rocked with some high winds tonight but that is a pretty common occurance through the winter months so no biggie - the Cape and Islands to the east of us will probably get a bit more of a blow because they are closer to the track. I have posted some links to vido of what it looks like here (earlier) lots of people have driven to town to watch the waves so its hard to get around along the pier - i am going to take a buzz over there right now and see if i can get some more pics before it gets dark, the surf should be up pretty good right now. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMakoH.../2/tJHl5uWkY0w http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMakoH.../0/hfg5XZBS9q8 http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMakoH.../1/a8nIVFKjjQs http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMakoH.../3/Q6QFnqEipRQ |

Earl
I don't know how things are down by the shore, but up here in Pawtucket it's just a rainstorm, occasionally heavy, very little wind.

hi John60RI - judging by the amount of rhode islanders down here watching the surf you may have pawtucket all to yourself right now lol
just came back from the lighthouse and with the tide up, and the wind starting up the waves are enourmous - this video does not do them justice - it is filmed from atop the bluff - the surfers that were there earlier are all out of the water and the police have blocked off the entrance to the DEM parking lot that goes down to the east gap of the harbor of refuge as the waves are well over the top of the jetty which i filmed from a distance. rain is coming and going in very heavy downpours - the narragansett pier is still open it appears so the surf on that beach is probably not as bad as at the point. anyways other than more wind and rain later tonight this is probably as bad as it will get over here and the rest of the week end is supposed to be great! it should be great up at the lake, this is the first labor day week-end in about four years ive missed because of other committments but there is always next week-end. lila delman's narragansett beach cam: http://www.liladelman.com/narraganse...h-web-cam.aspx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFd2aNXqB8Q |

I am the other Rhode Islander that stayed home but the TV news looked like the rest of the state was in Narragansett. Other than an inch of rain and humidity you can cut with a knife this storm is a bust, no wind yet.
