Default Name Change

When I was a kid I used to stay at SAUNDERS BAY MOTEL AND COTTAGES it is now a condo called Yacht Club Vista, near WYC. Now tell me this - on all the new charts of the lake the area where the Yacht Club is is now called Sanders Bay, not SaUnders Bay - why the change?????

Hi Port,
This topic has come up before on the forum. The official name of the bay is SANDers Bay. The official name of the motel was SAUNDers Bay Motel. Now the unanswered question(s). Were the motel owners named Saunders? Did they mistakenly spell the name of the bay? Was the bay once called SAUNDers Bay or was it always SANDers Bay?

From what I recall the consensus was that it was always really SANDers but, because of the prominent motel sign, everyone assumed it was SAUNders. People still often refer to it as Saunders Bay. I think the old maps also call it Sanders (but I'm not sure).

Anyone else confirm this or have more input or a different theory...?

Both the 1909 and 1956 maps at the following UNH site show it as Sanders Bay.
