Heading up this weekend June 5-7 for annual fishing trip. Just wondering about the conditions and what they have been hitting? Any info would be helpful.
Thank you!! |

If your only fishing for Bass Dennis has done a fine job catching you up to speed. However if your fishing for all species it really has been great lately on winni. In the past two weeks I have caught 6 very good size White Perch, one enourmous, unexpected and very fiesty Pickerel, a whole mess of Rainbows all average sizes, Brook Trout ranging from finger size to the length of my arm (roughly twenty between two of us), Smallies in abundance although most were lean and mid-size and a few good Crappies. The Salmon seem to be staying under radar, or fish finder for that matter. No Salmon at all. Tommorow night we plan to go after some Horned Pout. Good luck! Seems to me the fish are ready to party!

Nadia,
That certainly is a fine collection of fish species....well done! Are you sure those were crappie? I didn't think there were any in this Lake, but I must be wrong. There's certainly a lot of sunnies though. |

Orion, yes there are crappie in Winnie, I caught my first one 5 years ago up in lee's Mill, and I know quite a few of my friends who have caught them also. One other fish you might not know is in Winne, is the Carp ! I have personally seen one up in the Milla few years ago. I was not quite sure what I saw and I was describing it to a Friend who owns a place on Winnasquam and he assured me it was a carp , and he see's them occasionally cruiseing by his dock. Hope this helps !

Do you mean Lake Trout? Although Brookies may end up in Winni from feeder streams, they don't exist in large numbers and are not stocked in the lake by Fish and Game. The state record Brook Trout is 25.5" and was caught in Pleasant Lake (New London) in 1911. A Brookie the length of your arm would be a trophy fish and possibly a state record.
