Any idea why he left teaching after about 14 years at the highly regarded marine technician school at the NHCTC, now renamed the LRCC, Lakes Region Community College, and formerly the New Hampshire Vocatioal Technical School, or something? Did it have anything to do with Mercury outboards and MerCruiser outdrives having to cut back on their sponsorship-partnership at the school owing to the deep sinking of boat sales?

Dave R's reasons for leaving NHTC were personal. His qualifications are the best and unquestioned. Top notch. He does do house calls and has a facility at his home on RT 109. He keeps up my wifes 68 Century.

Lance Packard is also a good choice. Very honest and fair.

Since you have a Merc Alpha I expect that it is your water pickup impeller which is located in the outdrive just above the lower unit. Yup, you had to pull the boat.

Good luck and see ya out there!

Misty Blue.

I did pull the boat and it was the impeller. I put it back in the water and still had overheating. Make sure you check the thermostat as well. It was toast so had to replace that as well. Everything running fine now.
