Thanks for posting this link! I was looking for the automatic thank you button but couldn't find it.

I think this was the first big fly-in for the season. It only opened a week ago I believe. I'm sure it will be popular every weekend, as pilots are always looking for a good excuse to go flying, especially in winter and being able to brag about landing on the lake is always a good one.
I was hoping some planes on skis were going to show up, maybe they did after I left. Oh well. Kirk |

The runway is open during daylight hours any time the runway conditions are good. That all depends on the weather and those that plow the snow off the runway. Last year the runway was only open for a week and a half because of the rain/snow/rain/snow combinations we kept having... they couldn't get a consistent surface as I understand it. With the cold temps we've had this year, it should be open for a while.
Your best best for a day to watch planes landing and taking off is a sunny day, (or an overcast day like today where the clouds are high) with light winds on a weekends. Mornings are probably going to be busier than afternoons as flying to a destination like Alton Bay is probably going to be tied to eating breakfast or lunch. You can call 603-875-3498 or 603-455-7817 to find out the runway conditions (if it's open or not). Weather permitting, Sunday February 15th should be a very busy day on the ice runway. |
