Default ForumFest I : Grant's Gathering

"Outlaw" has previously asked for a firm yes or no re: who will be attending the 9/11 Gathering. A few responded but I'm afraid the request got pushed down on the forum stack and lost. I'm reposting it here again ....

By my last (and I know it's not 100% accurate) list, the people below had indicated they were interested in attending on 9/11. Let us all know if I've left you out or if your decision has changed or I've goofed. Also it's probably a good idea to indicate if you're bringing a spouse, kids, mon-amour, mistress, gigilo, etc. I've bolded and colored those who I believe have given a firm YES, removed those who said NO.

Don Hughes(?), Outlaw +1, Just Sold, Skip, Coastal Laker, Juawanna, Mee-n-Mac
ART, SIKSUKR, mcdude, Rattlesnake Gal, Gilly 20(?), ToW +1,
Lakegeezer, upthesaukee, Rinkerfam, LakeGirl, Rob, JohnNH, DW1585
gravy boat, jrc, scott hughes, ghfromaltonbay , Mink Islander, ddeemers (?), warren, rrr+1, Grant (?)

OK People Who Else ?? Not many bold names above

Default Keep this at the top of the list

Just to keep this thread at the top of the 'new posts' list I'm going to post to it every day -- come on folks -- you know this will be fun. I've already met a few of you and it has been great. Started some new really wonderful friendships. Spend a half hour and meet people and then you can go off go off and raft up somewhere or hang out at Garwood’s and just relax and have some fun (not something we really ever get to do and not feel guilty about doing it).

My grammar school motto: United we stand, dived we fall

Being anonymous is sometimes good but can also be very lonely. There's strength in numbers, isn't that what the Romans said.???

If you can make it, and I hope you can, please try -- if not we will miss you and will take many pictures and post them for you too see. I'm sure if this event is successful we will hold one again next year.

Looking forward to meeting you !

Don't forget to take lots of pictures for those of us who can't be there. I wish I could go! Instead I am going to have a picnic of my own, with all my textbooks! Perhaps I will put little name tags on my books:

SIKSUKR: You would be Algorithms and Discrete Structures, because that class 'SUKS'
Skip: You can be Parallel Programming, because you always get people to think like you

Wow -- I am already delierious and it's just 2 weeks into my FINAL SEMESTER!

Have a great time, and crack a cold one for me!

Count Me In!

Please re-state the time we are meeting at Cate Park. If it rains will it be inside at Garfields????

With our last minute work schedules I cannot say if the better half will be able to come. She may be covering for me.

I'll be there. We will set up a table with nametags in the gazebo/bandstand (in case it is raining or drizzling) with some nametags if people want them. I have had a gift certificate donated from a local restaurant. Anyone else have anything to donate? (large or small) Outlaw and Coastal Laker are in charge of the raffle. Do we have the tickets yet? It would be nice to be able to make a donation towards the new and improved weirs web cam from raffle proceeds. Besides raffled items a 50/50 raffle could also be worked in.

Time is 3 - 5 pm in Cate Park with any "post activities" to be decided by those present. I don't know if we had decided on a rain place/date but I'll second your suggestion. The only problem with Garwoods would be knowing there'll be space. Obviously we can't reserve space and not use it because it's sunny. I'd say bring an umbrella and if it rains those present will decide on the spot where to switch to and then leave a message in the park. How's that ?

I'm toying with the idea. Depends on a number of work-related factors. Again, a miles & time issue. Figures -- the nice weather arrives AFTER I've spent a total of 24 days up there over three months... go figure!

Default I was paning on being there... But

We take our grandkids on a special trip each fall, this year its Story Land. My plans were for following weekend, however, something came up for one of my daughters and it's now going to have to be 11th.

I was so looking forward to meeting you all, but duty calls and guy has got to do what a guy has to do.

Maybe next time things will work out better for me....

Hi rrr -

Thank you for wanting to contribute, it is greatly appreciated. I can not determine from your post if you want to contribute to the raffle or to the web cam fund direct. If it's the web cam fund directly, Don has set up the following site: http://www.winnipesaukee.com/weirscamfund.html

If you want to donate to the raffle that would be excellent. Send me a private message and we can work out the arrangements and details there.

Thanks so much !

mcdude - CostalLaker and I are working on the raffle thing. Depending on how many donations we get, we may need to consider another table, but I'll let you know that when all the donations are in.

Everyone -

Donations for Raffle to date:

1. mcdude - GC from local restaurant and framed photo
2. Outlaw - something fun and creative (working on it)

Here are some ideas for others interested in donating toward the raffle:
- if you provide a type of service, maybe you can donate one hour of your service (time)
- gift certificates to local restaurants, shops, marinas, mini golf places....
- hobbies you have that have an end product, like photos, quilts, gift baskets, crafts
- your raffle item could be to make a donation in the winners name to a local charity
- movie tickets
- car wash certificate
- here's a good one -- a pass for one person and a guest to Mr. C's (just joking)

The idea of the raffle to buy tickets and you place a ticket in a container in front of EACH item that you would like to win. This way if you do win, it will be something that you want. Rather than the traditional raffle where all the tickets go in to one hat and numbers are drawn and you win whatever item is up next.

CostalLaker and I will work on getting the raffle tickets and the containers to put the tickets in.

So all we need are items (donations) for the raffle.

Cool

Well, Sept 11, I assume that is on a Saturday. I'll try to make it way down to the other end of the Lake to the foreign city of Wolfeboro in my new 30 year old aluminum Star Chief and hopefully bring my girlfriend.
For a raffle prize what do you thin about a Wal-Mart 40 lb bag of potting soil, now that they have been reduced down to about $1.02/bag. Like I always say, what counts is quantity and not quality, right?

Any users on the forum who are not able to make the gathering on September 11th that would like to donate something, especially those who own a business -- maybe a Gift Certificate for one free item ???? Please let me know and I will work with you to coordinate getting the item to me.

I can't find it in MapQuest or MapBlast and I'm not familiar with the streets and roads on that side of the lake.

Post Loving this!

Not a great photo, but none the less,... I took it, and hope that you all will enjoy!

Ran into a hitch here, I have uploaded the photo that I wanted to put here, do not know where it is.

May I send my prayers to all, at the great gathering,.....

Love to all.

PS. I just found it.

Default A solid possible

I am new to the Forum and Wolfeboro (part time only). Although I have not posted much, I have enjoyed and learned a lot from reading the forums. I hope to be able to get there Saturday, but will have company that weekend and cannot be sure. Thank you all for continuing positng such valueable information, with a little local color and gossip thrown in on all the different forums on this site. It has been a great summer and am now looking forward to htting the cross country trails after enjoying foliage season.

Default Changes on 9/9

Thx Outlaw for keeping the list up to date !

In addition to Rob's post above I would add Costal Laker as a definite and move Just Sold from maybe to definite with a "+1" as a maybe. For that matter add a maybe +1 to me as well. LakeGirl has said she can't make it so drop her from the unknown list. I'd update it myself but you're doing such a fine job ....

I'll be bringing some Coke (diet plus other) and Mee has promised either CC cookies or brownies (perhaps both !). I've trying to get a certain T shirt from Gillan Marine (this website has made it famous) to raffle off, just waiting for what I think is the most likely size (x lrg) to become available. I'll bring a large if that's all they have and I'm sure an exchange could be made if desired.

Thx again for the updates !!

We're going to be in Wolfeboro for lunch at Garwoods (reservations at 1:00) with some friends from Conn. I don't know if we will still be in town at 3:00. I have a feeling the gang will want to be touring the lake by then. I was hoping to attend, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I hope many photos are taken so that I can see how things turned out. I will be there in spirit though.......Enjoy!!

The Gathering was a great time and I echo Lakegeezer's comments. Some really nice people there. Only wish more forum members were able to join us.

Many thanks to Outlaw, Rattlesnake Gal, McDude and Mee n Mac for getting it all organized. They did a spectacular job.

Can't wait until next year.

Default Great time

thanks to Mee n Mac, RG, McDude (my upthehill neighbor), and Outlaw, and all those who attended the gathering for making for a wonderful, and all too short afternoon. It was sooooo nice to meet and put a face (often a total surprise) to the screen name. As summer winds down, and we have to look forward to the boat going into the storage rack, my wishes for a great fall season, pleasant winter, early spring, and then let's get back out and do it again. I'll be for you all!!!!
Again it was so nice meet all who were there, and for Grant, TRFour, W.D. and others who could not make it , you were with us in spirit as well .
And to our wonderful webmaster, who puts forth the effort to make this venue possible for all of us, a sincere thanks. Cate Park on 9-11 would not have been even a thought without your untiring devotion to Winnipesaukee.com. Thanks Don, and I hope we can meet someday. It would indeed be my pleasure!!!!!

Thumbs up ForumFest I

I must agree with everyone, what a wonderful event! Good people, great time, what’s not to like. It was excellent to put faces to the names. As Upthesaukee stated, there were a few surprises. (PS~Lake Geezer doesn’t look a thing like his - now old - avatar!) After the first two meetings, there was serious doubt that we would get any kind of turn out. I was happily surprised and do believe that this will become a yearly event that will get bigger and bigger. Looking forward to meeting even more forum friends next year! Thanks to all. Especially to Outlaw, Mee-n-Mac, McDude, Waldo Pepper’s, AJ’s Bait and Tackle and Canoe. Last but not least, Webmaster Don, without him none of this would have been possible. Looking forward to the new webcam.
Secret message to Legend: It was nice to meet you! Please let us know what pans out!

What a beautiful spot to spend a perfect Fall afternoon meeting new friends! I was very impressed with the generosity of the many raffle donations! May I take this opportunity to thank Pepper (who was unable to attend) for her very generous donation of a gift certificate! Lake Geezer: pls contact me. I have the raffle prizes you won after you left. You won the matching T shirts from Gillan Marine donated by Mee-n-Mac. We made just under $200 to be donated to the web cam fund! Hopefully Outlaw didn't spend it ALL on drinks afterward!!!!

mcdude, I think you have one too many zeros on that amount. When I finally came to at 8:30 PM today (after the gathering yesterday -- man do I have one he** of a headache) the grand total was only $20.
(just joking folks -- it really was $190, but since I like nice round numbers I threw in a few more bucks and made it an even $200 -- not bad for for a small group of people and a few hours on a Saturday -- everyone).

There are several more excellent pictures kicking around from the gathering. Does anyone have any objections to them being posted? Nametags may or may not show. Let us know.

Thumbs up Thx to all

Well I believe a good time was had by all and a good start was made. I think it was pretty interesting to match the inperson personality to the online version. And to put a face to the same. If only I had a $1 for each time someone said "That's Outlaw !?". I also wish more people had pigged out on Mee's CC cookies .... so much for my Atkins this week ! Perhaps this winter between slandering the skimobilers and ice fishermen we can starting thinking about FF II Perhaps (next time) even Grant will make it

I'd like to thank all those who attended and especially those who offered up items for the raffle. Many kudos to Outlaw and McDude for their extra efforts and to Grant who suggested this in the 1'st place.

I too have a couple of pics, of the event and the post party at Mr B's. Will post them when they're done developing.

Any chance one of those pictures could have you in a grass skirt holding a parrott with Mr. B? What about the pink flamingo?

Smile 2004 ForumFest

Although I couldn't attend this time I am really glad to see that many of you got together and possibly formed some new friendships as a result of the Forum. I had the chance to meet some of you this summer and it was great to see how many nice people are behind the nicknames and avatars.

I've been enjoying the pictures of the ForumFest posted on PhotoPost so far and have created a new category for them under Miscellaneous. Here's a direct link:

OK, I'll bite... Is Mr. B's the replacement for Mr. C's?

Thank you Don for doing this, much appreciated. I will be mailing you a check for the money raised at the gathering raffle on Saturday (minus the bar bill of course -- NET $20). No really, a fantastic total of $200.00 will be on it's way to you. Thanks for all your work Don, it never goes unnoticed !!!

Tell you what, lets have some fun with this -- I'll provide you with a list of people who attended and you can match the names with the people you think they are in the picture. I'll let you know which ones you get right and which ones are incorrect (but only through a Private Message -- need to protect those who are in the witness relocation program).

..... are you game??

Thanks for posting the photos. Glad the weather held out and the turnout was good! Wish we could've made it. Perhaps next time.

To all:

I must apologize for not making an appearance at the outing. From reading the posts, it's obvious that the event was a real success.

We had one of those aggravating emergencies at home = the washing machine decided to self destruct on Saturday morning and caused me to stay at home and deal with the water and electrical issues. Everything is fixed for now and we are off to the appliance store for a replacement this week.

I hope to meet everyone next year.

Regards,
John/NH

Again, what a great time!
I vote POST_EM.

Dee and I had a great time. The best part was meeting cyber-space friends and finally putting a face to the name. Some were what I expected but others, ranged from OH that's what you look like to SHOCK, you can't be XYZ!!

Thanks Outlaw, McDude, RG, Mee-n-Mac and the others who helped put this together.

Don, it was your site that made this happen. No site = No forum = no new friends. Thanks again for all you did and do.

Well I'm ToW-ing for a meeting at work so got to go.

Thumbs up Forum Gathering = Fine time

What a pleasant time I had at the forum gathering. Thanks to everyone who helped make this such a nice event - including those who generously donated raffle prizes. Although some people were close to thee way I pictured them, there were some big surprises. My mental images of a few of you were not even close to reality . I think others have already alluded to this phenomenon.

I like the idea of a match the screen name with the face game. If this takes place on-line rather than via private e-mail, I'd like to see the guesses concealed until guessing is complete - then I'd like to see all the guesses.

I hesitate posting my forumfest pictures because of the possibility that some attendees might prefer to remain faceless on the internet. My opinion is to get an OK from each person. You may include me (as long as it is a flattering picture of me - (if such a thing is possible). Wonder if anyone will confuse me (I was almost going to add a few names of people who may or may not have been there) with "Pirate"?

I'll save my personal comments on name and face surprises until after the guessing (I don't want to give any hints - like "Lake Geezer" looking well preserved or rattles and "Rattlesnake Gal" or "rrr" turns out to be someone I've known for a few years or...).

Seriously, I felt like I was meeting old friends rather than new people. It was truly a nice experience. The time went by way too fast.

A fine time was had by AL - that's what I say - others said,
A fine time was had by ALL.

Default Well, you know I was there in Spirit.

My e-mail friend came over from Hall's Pharmacy where she works, and said Hi from me. That is cool. Never met her til this trip, although we have been friends for over 3 years.
I am glad the weather cooperated. Will try again next year. We are already beginning to plan a trip up in September.

Thumbs up I was there (and into some spirits)...

First & foremost, my sincere thanks to our gracious webmaster.

If Don didn't have the foresight to create this site, nor the patience and fortitude to maintain it, I would never have had the opportunity to befriend so many good people, both on-line and now in person.

It was an interesting and extremely enjoyable occasion.

By the way, special thanks go to those who provided me that pint or two at the later smaller forum gathering. If your ears were burning Don, don't worry, we were just hefting a pint or two in your honor. And a special thank you to Cabinfever for allowing me to join the recently formed RSSS (Rope Swing Secret Society). By the way, the secret handshake is really neat!

Getting to spend time with folks like Mee-n-mac, Rattlesnake Gal (and guy) Cabinfever, Outlaw, Al (hope I didn't rag chew with you too much), ToW & his lovely wife, Rob and a host of others was an opportunity I'm glad I did not miss. Putting faces to avatars and actually meeting the real personna behind the posts revealed that people are much more colorful & interesting in person than they are across the separation of many IPs!

You would have to be living alone in a tent in the middle of the forest to not realize the passion, intelligence, kindness and sincere appreciation for everything good the Lake has to offer after meeting the fine group of people that gathered near the gazebo for a few hours Saturday afternoon. Thank you all for letting me spend those too few few hours with you that day!

Anyway, looking forward to kibitzing with you all over the upcoming winter and gathering again next summer for a bigger and more boisterous event. And for those of you still interested, I sense a snowmobile rendezvous coming up in a few short months.

Hey Mee-n-mac, doesn't that call for some pre-planning at a pub near you sometime soon?

Thanks again all...and I have no problems with the posting of any or all pics!

Okay, which one of you party animals broke the WolfeCam after we left? Its been down since Saturday night!
We should have all stood and posed in front of it so everyone could see us having fun! Maybe next year or we could set up some sort of temporary live cam. At the WinterFest perhaps? An interactive one, so we can see those who could not make it. (Not that I have the first clue about any of that stuff! Or if it is even possible.)

Discussions already in progress on this one -- even have a 'host site' set up for it. Details will be posted when things are formed.

Well said, Skip. I feel the same way.

It was a pleasure meeting some of you for the first time, and getting to see several of you again. It's a great bunch of people we have on the forum, and I have enjoyed getting to know all of you.

(slightly off topic text to follow)

With regards to John/NH, I too was nearly derailed by appliance repair this weekend, as the fridge decided to act up on Friday night. When I finally got through the 30 minute plus hold time to schedule an appointment with the manufacturer (the unit was under a five year warranty), they told me that 1) based on my description, the problem was most likely not covered by warranty, and 2) they couldn't come until Tuesday unless I wanted to pay even more than the $230 fee for non-warranty repairs, in which case they would come on Saturday. After scheduling an appointment for Tuesday and reaslizing that I was faced with the prospect of a fridge full of spoiled food, waiting around the house on Tuesday, not to mention the minimum $230 service call, I decided to try to fix it myself. Thanks to the customer service rep who, by way of explaining why the warranty did not apply, more or less told me what the problem was(condenser fan wire), I was able to Google my way to a web site that walked me through the problem.
The funny thing is that I spent more time on hold (first to schedule the appointment, then to cancel it) than I did actually fixing the fridge.

(We now return to our regularly scheduled topic.)

Anyway, I made it to the lake on Saturday morning, and I'm glad I did.

Thanks to all the people who put so much effort into planning, organizing and donating prizes. (I was feeling rich after the saving the fridge, so I bought some extra raffle tickets. Amana's loss is Don's gain)
Thank you to whoever donated the book on stars and planets, it's a fine prize, and I'll look forward to studying it over these last few weekends of the boating season.

By the way if you ever need to fix appliances, try this: www.acmehowto.com

Lightbulb Next Summers ForumFest

A police officer just left our home for regarding a noise complaint from my son’s garage band. (A group of honor students jamming for a benefit performance for the Girls and Boys Club in Milford. Real wild guys, playing crazy music like Clapton, Led Zep and Black Sabbath. The officer was A-okay with them making a bit of noise. Better than on the street! Good cause too.)
This got me to thinking there might be some forum members talent that could be tapped into for next summers ForumFest. Then it really would be RG’s Revenge!

Glad to hear Saturday was a success. I am truly sorry to have missed it by such a small window of time. Our guests were ready to see the lake right after lunch at Garwoods (we were off before 2:00). Anyway, the pictures were a bonus.....thanks!! Next year no excuses. We'll be there.
Peace to all.

Unhappy Sorry I missed the gathering

Sounds like you all had a good time at the gathering. Sure am sorry I had to miss it. I am waiting to see more forumfest pictures from Cate Park on photopost.

I want to play the match the name with the face game. Will it be on line or do I need to ask someone to e-mail the picture and names to me?
