We are in the process of applying for a building permit. Looking for info on process and who have you used for septic design? Also, how long did they take? Thanks in advance.

I recommend David Ames and Assoc. in Meredith.
He has been around for a long time and is very good. |

Most contractors want to do the standard septic design. However there are alternative designs that use much less space and aggregate and can even cost a lot less. There is some information about it at this link.

I highly recommend Charles Noddin from Belmont, NH. He designed a system for us to replace an existing 1935 septic tank. He sat down with us and discussed the process from start to finish including the state regulations and potential pitfalls. He spent about 1-1/2 hours with us and answered all of our questions during his initial visit.
Since our plan was considered a "change in use" by both the state and the town, the approval process took about 3 months. Mr. Noddin handled all of the paperwork and was our intermediary each time the town/state asked for additional information. idigtractors is 100% correct that a septic designer will design the system for your conditions. I would add that the design is also part of a "perfect world" scenario. The design will take topography, state regulations and perk tests into account; but until they start digging, you won't know if they will find ledge where your tank is supposed to go! Please feel free to pm me if you want additional information Best wishes! |

All,
Thank you for responding back. We had a perc test performed back in 8/06 and results were great. It is a sloped waterfront lot. We have contacted another designer to actually design the septic and get town/state approval versus using the one that actually did perc test boiling down to $$. Do you think this will be a problem? Your opinions please are welcome. Of course we are trying to do this and get a permit before 4/1. We shall see. As for cutting some trees down within the buffer, when is the date for that? Was it 12/1/07 or will it be 4/1/08? |
