I'm new to snowmobiling & am wondering if anyone out there can tell me about the trails in the Alton Shores/Alton Mountain Rd area. I joined the Mt. Major Club last week, but have yet to venture out on the trails. I took a look at the trail that appears to start out next to the mailboxes on Alton Mt. Rd by Alton Shores Rd, but it looked pretty muddy. My sled does not have reverse, and I was leary to head down a trail I did not know anything about. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I live in Alton Shores, on Scott Drive. Thanks, Scott G. |

Scott keep going down that trail. The trail to straightback mt is right off of the trail and I think if you go straight you will end up at the boy scout camp but I haven,t been down there in a long time.
Mt Major Club has a map on there website. |

When I rode a sled none of them had reverse.
Guess I am showing my age. |

You can also purchase one at some of the businesses around town, including Amilynn's Market.

You are correct regarding being able to purchase maps at the local businesses, but they are not very trust worthy. They haven't updated these maps in years and several if not many have been change, closed or not maintained. Be careful and ask people who use the trails regularly for the most updated info on the trails. That trail by the mail boxes on Alton Mountain Rd. was posted No Trespassing by the owner who is now trying to sell all that land. The club will not come right out and say that they defiantly have permission to use that trail. They are in discussion of relocating it, but that hasn't happened as yet.

Scott:
CLICK HERE for the enlarged map. The area from Alton Mt. Road heading toward Straightback is private property. It is very important to STAY ON THE TRAIL so this area is not closed off by the owners. |
