Default Church landing. Just stayed here and it's a holiday inn

The new owners have truly screwed this beautiful property up. It's optimized to make money by cutting back up keep, staff, service orientation and decor. They definitely got rid of the Adirondack style and replaced with generic furnishings , uncomfortable neds, no spa services no housekeeping staff. We checked in Sunday at 5 pm and several people ahead of us could not go to their room. The manager had to go make up the room. They switched our room to one on the ground floor that smelled like a misty basement. They also consolidated all checking for all hotels in metedith to church landing. The woman was nice enough but clueless. She was practiced at saying she was sorry.

Hearing most of the staff has moved on to the new hotel property on Winnisquam. A few other local businesses are currently retraining many do to departures of long time staff

Sorry to hear. My daughter's wedding was one of their first when they had been in full operation only a short time. Everything was superb. They even had one staff member assigned to be my personal go-fer for the day.

So is it correct to assume that the service has gone down and the prices have gone up?

How is the food there at the present time? I thought it was decent last time I stopped in for a meal (before Covid).

Do you mean the the Lake House Grille at church landing? That is a Common Man restaurant probably separate from the inn. It was fine a week ago.

I notice the hotel's been 'sanitized'. All the Adirondacks atmosphere is missing except where the dining area is. I bet Alec would be furious if the decides to sanitize the main dining and bar area. It would not surprise me the hotel chain did not renew the lease and put in their own brand.

That would leave the Lake Estate, to be the 'standard bearer' of what hospitality should be in the Lakes Region.

The Mt Washington Hotel has also been standardized for the OMNI owners. What I remember back in the 2000's was the nostalgic feeling missing today.

I just recently spent Valentine's Weekend at the Mountain View Grand. Prices have double since my last visit in 2019. Although service was good and the room was clean, I just had to vent on my experience on the hotel. Here is a copy of what I sent to management.

'The resort was sold in 2022. The new owners have made significant "negative" changes to the once glamorous hotel. The semi secluded bar adjacent to the dining room is now fully open to the lobby. The admired and inviting piano was removed from the lobby and relocated elsewhere. The heart and focal point of the hotel lobby for guests was the vintage and nostalgic reception desk which was demolished and replaced with a cold and awkward looking modern desk. All of the semi-period correct lighting fixtures, wall covering and furnishings were also removed from the general lobby, bar and dining room areas leaving a cold feeling interior resembling a basic city hotel. If you are looking for a beautiful historic Inn that provides a warm and inviting interior with ageless and classic fixtures, this would NOT be a good choice. We had planned to relax and enjoy the hotel for three days, but with the entire feeling being different from prior visits, we will find a more suitable retreat in the future.'

I guess I will have to embrace the clean, sanitary look of corporate America.

I find that newly built homes are going with the modern sanitary look also. I'm not sure if it's cost or builders trying to appeal to more international buyers.
Just look at the ugly condos overlooking the Weirs, not appealing to me but they are selling.

Adirondacks? You mean Arts & Crafts?
Two different styles.

Foreign money seems to want the A&C in either a camp or cottage aesthetic.

I am surprised that the Weirs condos near Cumberland Farms are selling as well as they are. One man's "chicken coop" is another man's dream vacation home!

I totally agree with you, it's been happening for a few years and I don't like them. Maybe it IS the foreigners they are trying to impress, I never thought of that.

There initial design was different.
So was the one near Bayside at the old Barton's.

The change is sometimes engineering. Snow storage and such. While others that effect aesthetics is because they love the initial design and then lose it when costed out.

Eastern White Cedar Shingles turn into vinyl shakes or even double four very quickly. That could be changed later, but now the Condo Association has to all agree to the change, so that never happens.

And once you have to change the roof lines to handle snow, that goes way beyond what any Condo Association wants to pay to correct.
